It won't be included for the official Eden release (too close to release to make those changes, so the team is playing it safe), but...
if you ask nicely, then one of the people who know how to compile XBMC for iOS might make a special patched version for you with that included change.
Before anyone asks me.. I have no idea how to compile things.

Either patched, or in the first nightly after the Eden Final right?
Anyway it will be a popular patched version!!

Mhh at least it was a try. I think i've just exceeded my limits here. Sry guys.
Here are testversions for it.
ATV2 (with repeated keypresses)
iPhone/iPad/iPod
And of course its like on all other plattforms. Volumecontrol is only possible when not bitstreaming (passthrough) - e.x. for music and stereo or mixed down pcm sound.

My Apple TV2 is complete now
You guys are great!
EDIT:
I noticed straight away a buffering and streaming problems with my SD content. Must test further but it seems there is a regression in this department compared to B3, then again, it's merely a test build.
Also, the volume works perfectly, too bad it's not mapped to the up and down keys in the Apple Remote.

Great!!!!
This might be my final )
I am sure i could find it in some other guide but some one might be helpful here and write down in this thread, how we should now
remap UP/DOWN to control the volume in our patched XBMC.
I can control it through my android phone but UP/DOWN on the remote would also be nice to control it!
Cheers!!!

I've build new versions again. They are based on my pull request i've made here:
699 (PR)
This will go in after eden release. Feel free to use the testbuilds so long (though i don't do any new builds - but eden isn't that far that it would be worth it).
The new builds end with "volume2.deb" and the misspelled advancedsettings.xml entry isn't needed with these.
links updated in post 6 here
