total noob with linux never used it never even seen it, so please be patient.

windows 7 is installed and as of rigt now it has 1 g of ram i can upgrade t 2g of ram
in windows 7 xbmc standard videos play smooth but in hd tger is a bit of stutter.
would like to know if a linux install, ubuntu xbmc live would help.
the only thing i want this to do is play my videos (smb from a usb hard drive hooked up to my network)
and also play hulu content via blue cop xbmc
the biggest files i have are about 2 gigs.
i sure hope there is something i can do.
