I think a better way might be if someone can figure a way to have channel one be some kind of splash screen that displays relevant info (ex: weather) but doesn't rely on any outside video streams and therefore will never fail.

Do you mean something like a weather website?
After updating to the latest version, PTVL gets stuck during channel building. If you get a chance, please take a look at my debug logs. It also is trying to add music channels or something, which I don't have any of. Thanks

I have debug turned on in PTVL but cant find the file to upload.

PLTV can't parse my file and i see at the epg "TV listings unavailable,Check your xmltv file"
I also have the same result even with the xmltv file that PLTV downloads with it's xmltv service.

Here is a log: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2vk3h09cfdhr8hd/xbmc.log?dl=0

Thanks

hmmm weird... fixed what I believe to be the problem? I'll push update later... Let me know if that takes care of it.

Basically. Maybe even more than that. Some kind of splash screen that showed dynamic information such as weather, etc.

To what end? Lol... If you're using a source that is so sketchy it might not load... Then don't base a channel off of it.

We all like channels using internet sources... But the xbmc team still doesn't offer proper error handling support. I can't even write a proper hook to catch a failing stream. So for now leave iffy sources out of the mix Smile

This begs the question though - is such a development-intensive feature really worth the end result? Does it really matter if you get 30 seconds of a random video behind your guide as you first start the app up? These kinds of features are quite niche but take up a considerable amount of dev time and cause maintenance hell over the long run.

I'm all about adding features...but I agree lets not add features just to cover up fundamental problems Smile

Some time down the road i'll add a channel guide with logos, but I have no plans to offer the guide as a startup channel, rather it will be a separate menu accessible via remote.

What I don't get... is if this is such a big issue... why not create channel 1 as a directory channel and point it to my included intro video... then set the startup channel to channel 1. this would guarantee first channel playback. Smile

Why not just make a Play list from local content and set it as channel one and let PTVL start on Channel one

I like this idea...

I agree that it's mostly to mask problems but sometimes that’s all we can do...

I'm still learning how to use this and most of my "sega" listings have turned south lately...
(requiring manual selection because autoplay always fails)
so I am really not sure how to get the best performance using this...
Quick clarification if anyone can help...about file limit...

If I specify a file limit of 10, for example. Does it find the first 10 folders, and then (going from top down) parse the 1st 10 links it finds? Or does it parse the first 10 files of *each* of this folders, resulting in 100 files parsed?

Or other?

You never mentioned which chtype you are inquiring about.

Ah! Didn't know it was different depending. Direct Plugin (since I'm the weird no-local-media type Smile )

Chtype 15, uses the global limit unless u configured the limit in setting_3.

For example setting_3 is 25. PTVL will parse 25 files from each directory found under the path set in setting_1. A max directory count of double the limit is set, in this case 50.

In a folder setup that includes "next page" PTVL will walk all folders till it fills its limit quota.
Hi Luna,

I am trying to add some live streaming news channels. I recently discovered Sky News is streaming live over Youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYlQJbsVs48

I have tried to get it to work using the new PseudoTV Live Manager using both the playlist and the search and failed. The weird thing that happens is that PTVL closes when ever attempting to play the stream. When I say close I mean as if a proper shutdown of PTVL, not a crash. I was going to post it in the PseudoTV Live Manager forum but I think it is more related to PTVL. I can provide a debug log if you are unable to reproduce. I hope you can help. I have been trying to get BBC News and Sky News in PTVL forever Confused

Perhaps try logging into your YT account, creating a new playlist, and adding that video as the only item in the playlist. Then copy the PL********* code from the URL of the playlist and use it to create a youtube playlist channel. Not sure it will work but it's worth a try. If not then you will probably have to use the internettv chtype and set it up through the youtube plugin link.

I'd test it out but the stream is not available in my country.
