(PS I do own all the blurays shown, so hopefully no issues with showing these here...)

Hyperion : http://forum.stmlabs.com/showthread.php?tid=11053 (BIG thanks to poljvd for his help)
XBian and wiring diagram : http://forum.xbian.org/thread-1750.html (Thanks to Zarboz for starting me off on this)
I am about to doing the same, already bought two 50 leds light stripes chains for my 46 TV but struggling to find a suiting 5V power supply with 4-5 A.
Which power supply did you use and do you have recommendations for me ?

As far as i understood, when connecting my nexus 7 tab running xbmc android via my avr/slimport cable the raspberry hyperion should receive the boblight server messages from xbmc android addon and do the lightshow, but is there an app or service which connects hyperion to the nexus 7 desktop screen doing light messages when using other than xbmc android app ?
The (cheap) PSU i'm using is working fine : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111221925384?s...1497.l2649

If you check this link : http://bite-in.com/?p=9 this guy talks about adapters for connecting devices to run the lights from sources other than XBMC using a splitter, may help.
Hyperion is the best thing that ever happened to XBMC. I was so happy when I found it last month and could get rid of the classic boblightd. Got it working on both Raspbmc and OpenELEC.
Hyperion works awesome. 1 thing i can't find is that the first led always keeps burning. does someone know how i can change that?
I've got the same problem, lots of times 1 led just goes blue.
I can use the Hyperion-app on my phone to turn if off, but that's not very convenient (and looks stupid when showing off to my friends! Tongue )

I have some random flashes also sometimes. Anybody have that too?
Only time I had random flashes was when I didn't have the Ground on the LED strip connected to the power supply AND the Pi GPIO connector.
I checked with the Lightberry-people. They have both grounds connected, so that should be OK.
They are sending me a new convertor because the flashing has become terrible now.
These people give excellent support, I would recommend anyone not willing to do a DIY to order from them Smile
I had the same problem with hyperion and ws2801.

Random flashes with xbian, but works perfectly in Raspbmc.

That's what the people from Lightberry told me also.
But I had the problem in Raspbmc too.
I reduced the default rate that Lightberry puts in their configuration-file from 1000000 to 250000 (Hyperion-default) and it disappeared almost completely!
Do you have it running with an USB Video Grabber or through plain dispmanx?
I want to start a ambilight project.

Right now i have
RaspberryPi Running XBian through HDMI to 46" TV.

I want to play content from my Xbian to my TV. What do need (as low budget as possible) to get the ambilight working.
Does this cover it?

Glad you got it all running finally sorry about all the silence over at xbian forums had lost my home and some other things and now finally back on the interwebs... planning my next build.

Projection screen @ 115" (1080p) 150-200 LEDs around the perimeter. I will be using WS2812b LED's controlled via DMA protocol on an RPI B+

You can run a full distro with a usb video grabber -> pi -> LED's for things that are not being pushed through dispmanx
in this case since he is running a XBMC build on the Pi the dispmanx manager is now making grabs for replication via ambilight

Github for ambilight here:

I much prefer lpd8806 or ws2812b over that model IC
