I have an android stick using xbmc. would like to setup live TV with tvheadend.I have the tvheadend installed on my xbmc but keeps asking me to add source. Do I need to have a TV tuner located a server to make it work.

Yes you do, and unfortunately tvheadend doesn't work on Android so you can't just pop a USB tuner into your current machine. Surely you or someone you know have some old hardware lying around that you could use as a backend (tvheadend requires very little in regard to system resources).
