Hi I recently bought an Android TV box running Jellybean 4.2.2
XBMC 13.2 Gotham.

The box is connected by HDMI to my TV, and by ethernet to my router.

I just cannot get Live TV to work. When I go into XBMC I see that all of the PVR's are "disabled". If I click on any of them to "enable" it nothing seems to happen.
A message is displayed that Argus has lost it's connection.

I am not a computer expert, I bought the box to use it to get more TV channels on my TV and possibly to do some browsing of the internet.

Can anyone steer me in the right direct as to where to start looking to to put things right.

Obviously you will probably need more info, can you also guide me as to where to look to find it.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry nickr, but I am a little confused by your reply of "PVR".

Can you be a little more specific?

Thanks
It's a link. Click it.

Sorry I didn't realise that you had posted me a link. I have looked at the various articles and still have a couple of questions.

The main one being which backend I should be using. I bought a small "XBMC MX Android Dual Core Smart TV Box Media Player 1080p Stream XXX Jailbreak" box from ebay. It seems that Argus is recommended for windows, but I am attaching this box direct to the TV.

I'm a total neebie to this sort of thing with no experience of these kinds of boxes. I guess I expected it to work straight out of the box, or with a little tweaking here and there so any help will be most gratefully received.

Thanks.
Well I use mythtv and thoroughly love it, but really you need to work out what TV is being broadcast in your area, how it is being broadcast and whether there are encryption issues. As none of us know what your local conditions are, you'll have to investigate those issues first.

Does that android box have a tuner? I don't know how you expect to pick up TV without a tuner.
Hi nickr,

I took your advice and followed the link. There is certainly a lot of information and I picked up quite a bit.

Eventually I managed to obtain an error log which shows the problem :-

From this it seems to me that for some reason the port 49943 is not open, but I just can't seem to find a way to open it. I read somewhere that I should actually open ports 49941 to 49943.

Can you clue me into how to get these ports to be opened all the time.

Thanks,
I don't think Argus runs on android does it? How did you install it?
Hi Nickr,

I think that it must have come pre-installed in the Android MX box that I bought on E-Bay.

The link that you supplied about PVR's seems to suggest that I should be using TVheadend or something like that. If you think that I should be using another PVR I will download and install it.

Like many people coming to XBMC and Android for the first time, I have no real experience of having to carry out programming and debugging. We have been sheltered from all this with our PC's where we bought a product and it usually worked first time with only a minimum of settings to be set for personal usage.

Luckily there a number of experienced people on the web who can guide and advise "newbies" like myself.

Thanks.
Hmm, think maybe your username is very apt Smile

To use XBMC/Kodi for live 'over the air' TV, you need two parts. The first part is called a 'backend'. This is the program which talks to your tuner hardware, downloads EPG data, handles recordings and streams the live TV signal to....The second part. This is called a frontend. The frontend fetches the EPG data from the backend, schedules recordings for the backend to record, and tells the backend which channel you want to watch.

XBMC/Kodi comes supplied with frontends for various different backends. These frontends are listed in addons-pvr.

Your log would indicate to me that there is no Argus TV backend running on your machine, which isn't surprising, as it is a Windows only backend.

This thread http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=182218 might help you out a little with some more information about what you are trying to do.
