Full Version: Streaming XBMC Audio via http over the network

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone knew of an addon (or configuration) or easy way to do:

Stream the audio track that is currently playing on XBMC over the network. Ideally something like over http so that I can point something at it to pick up the audio and play it.

It's mainly for trying to enhance the features in: Add-on:Sonos so that users can have their Sonos system play the audio from XBMC. (I know there is bound to be lots of sync issues - but that's a later problem!)

The further issue is, I want it to work without having to install 3rd party (OS dependant) programs - so will need to be python based I guess. (Of even better something that XBMC already supports and I don't know about.

Thanks

Rob
I don't think it's possible as you described right now with python scripts, or ever will (I guess it's nearly impossible to program such an addon, because different OS's use very different audio engines). It's possible to realise a network stream via a pulseaudio network sink though, but you need ubuntu/linux for that on your xbmc server.
@rob - You mean something like this http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=78431 ?
Hi Funky_Funked, black_eagle,

Thanks for both taking the time to reply - I knew I was being ambitious hoping for something platform independant - but though I would ask anyway!

Thanks

Rob
