You're not getting what he's saying. This thread is about the process of building and distributing XBMC through a PPA. Your problem has nothing to do with that.

I'm new to Linux and reading all the guides on building from the SVN I just keep hitting a dead end.

3 quick questions.
Now Maverick is officially released, how long til XBMC will be available for it -
I installed Maverick last night and expected XBMC to work out of the tin Sad

Can the latest SVN builds be used with Maverick?

If so, how do I go about understanding how to build from the SVN, when the commands to do it via example are not well documented? Is there a type 'this', press 'this'. install 'this' type guide anywhere? I know I'm asking a lot, but every command I enter into Terminal is throwing back errors at me... the best one so far was

To the normal user, it seems to me like no amount of reading/learning is going to help. I'm completely computer literate and work as a Windows Computer technician, anything Windows is a breeze, but I find Linux extremely frustrating when trying to learn anything with it.

{{svn}} is a placeholder for the svn repo you want to checkout. you likely want https://xbmc.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot...arma_beta3

in my world the normal user would have thought "hmm, okay, let's search for 'svn co' and see what i find'"

I had some issues with Samba, and after removal and reinstallation, xbmc did not worked anymore. I am a good reader but in this case I must ask for support. My husband is making fun since I already spent more than 8 hours to this problem...

When I try to reinstall, I have:

  xbmc: Depends: xbmc-data (= 2:10.00~svn34731-lucid1) but it is not going to be installed

        Depends: xbmc-skin-confluence (= 2:10.00~svn34731-lucid1) but it is not going to be installed

E: Broken packages

I have read this thread almost entirely and:

sudo apt-get purge xbmc

then

sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list

and removed the xbmc PPA's
Then searched for "xbmc" and removed all files and folders related.
Rebuild your list index by:

sudo update-apt-xapian-index

Reboot, then

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc-svn/ppa

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install xbmc

and again I get:

I done again another clean-up and added the stable repos:

and the installation of 9.11 was just fine. I could start xbmc with no problem.
But I need to use Dharma so I've rebooted, purged the 9.11 as per above procedure.
Then reboot again, added the SVN repos:

This a big headache, what am I missing?

Angi321 possibly an issue with your dist version

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

MIGHT WORK.... I know its worked for me in the past, but its possible it might fubar some thing else. like your NVidia or Alsa. in which case you can re-install those two.

What could be wrong with Alsa and NVidia? Also, I am that familiar how to reinstall these two. Smile

I have read a lot of threads about this dependency issue and in most of them I read to purge the xbmc and remove the repos and then start over and for many worked but not here.
The stable 9.11 could get installed and then removed but it seems that there are some settings written specifically about Dharma version in some files that I get this dependency issue. How to reset them or do something? What else could I try, please?

some times the dist-upgrade upgrades the kernel and it brakes Nvidia/Alsa for some folks. but since your already up to date it didn't up date anything for you

You can try to download the packages manually from launchpad.net and install it with "dpkg -i".
