Try This

No nope, edited /etc/init/xbmc.conf with the instructions and verified after reboot.

still no auto login.
possibly because it was an xbmclive version that got updated/upgraded?

even tried manual start.
Code:
boston@XBMCLive:~$ sudo service xbmc start
start: Job failed to start

edit: for now my way around it is to startx then start xbmc from there.
any help?

doesnt work in 10.0.4

There is no Login Screen option
System -> Administration -> Login Screen
system >profiles and you can manage logins from there. top lef enable/disable autologin and well its not a complicated Dialog.

if your talking about Linux autologin well then google.

run the following from a terminal or alt+f2 if you're a gui person.
Code:
gdmsetup

ok again dont see system > profiles in the menus.
and yes i have googled it and tried multiple different things ive found on xbmc forum.
still no luck enabling auto login to xbmc.
I've just figured this out for Ubuntu 10.10

You need to auto start XBMC this way:

System->Preferences>Startup Appplications

On the Tab Startup Programs klik <add>

Now you have 3 input fields:

Name
Command
Comment

Name: you can choose, but XBMC would be the obvious choice.
Command: Click the <Browse> button and navigate to "File System>USR>BIN> scroll all the way down until you find a single entry called xbmc. Select it.
The line in the field Command should now read: /usr/bin/xbmc
Comment: you can leave blank.

DONE!!

I do assume you have alread got Ubuntu to login automagically. It takes a little while longer then a Live install, but it works!

Sad
sorry guys this is a bit offtopic has zero to do with ppas. go here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_BpDe0tqak and here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1466177 or wherever just refrain form poluting a already complicated thread with non helpfull information regarding its original intent.
I appreciate the help, but neither of those are helpful or things I havent tried.
Guess I'll figure it out on my own or wait till Eden Live version. Oo
Does someone have a clue why I get;

The following packages have been kept back:
linux-generic linux-headers-generic linux-image linux-image-generic xbmc
xbmc-bin xbmc-live

notice when I try to upgrade from unstable ppa and xbmc will not
upgrade. It used to upgrade but no more...help please...

Br, Zemy
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
