uhm. you don't edit that file by hand. if you insist,
<yourpreferrededitor> ~/.xbmc/userdata/guisettings.xml
where yourpreferred editor can be 'nano' for instance.

No? Do you mind giving more information about what you experience when you attempt to follow his instructions?
You do realize he is telling you the path to the file and how to open a file from terminal in nano?
nano ~/.xbmc/userdata/guisettings.xml
Even if the path was incorrect nano would open an empty file. Is there any chance your are doing something wrong?

This is what iv done gone into terminal and put in:
<nano> ~/.xbmc/userdata/guisettings.xml
and i keep getting no such file or something similar.

did you try nano without the <>? I think perhaps you should avoid doing advance stuff like editing xml manually if you are struggling to open the file. No offence, but this is pretty much heading towards disaster.

Dharma has the enable vfd option removed i thought this was the only way to get it to work.
