Subject sort of explains it all - I am hearing that XBMC sound isn't working in the 4.3.1 jailbreak and I have a fresh in the box ATV2, so no SHSH on file for older firmwares...Can I jailbreak this to an earlier version or am I stuck with 4.3.1 (and no sound) without a previously jailbroken ATV2?
Yes, but do it now while Apple is still signing the older software.

Also, save your blobs when you do it so you can revert back whenever needed.

(Btw, there are instructions to do all this in the off topic section)
I purposely upgraded my ATV2 yesterday to 4.3.1 so I could get MLB.tv Then, I followed the instructions on this post to setup XBMC again. http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=772...stcount=98

Using this process and the Semi-nightly builds, everything is functioning properly.
Thanks, I wasn't aware they were signing the older software still.

Partpricer - You don't have any XBMC sound issues under 4.3.1? Full sound out of videos you play?

I have not experienced any problems to this point. Last night, I watched some videos off of my SMB share, watched a TV show from icefilms, watched a soccer game on ESPN3 and listened to music via the Pandora add-on. Sound was good on them all.
Did you make use of AC3/DTS passthrough (5.1. surround sound ...)?

I am not. However, in the link that I included, the poster of that message does use AC3/DTS and they indicate that everything is working,
I'm confused...Maybe Apple TV is only using 4.2.1 still. I just did an update and check for updates and my Apple TV 2 running 4.2.1 is telling me THAT is the latest version.

Is iOS out of sync now, still at 4.2.1 for Apple TV 2 and at 4.3.1 for iPhones? iTunes doesn't want to push me past 4.2.1 and neither does the Apple TV 2's built-in updater.
Okay, answering my own question here. So iOS 4.2.1 for the Apple TV is the same as iOS 4.3.1 for other devices. Confusing, somewhat.

Anyway, I did attempt the partpricer routine above and am just getting static when I attempt to use DTS/AC3 via HDMI on my freshly installed and jailbroken ATV.

So for now I think it's safe to say that no sound under the latest jailbreak and Apple TV iOS listed as version 4.2.1.
Apple TV 2G software version 4.1.1 is iOS 4.2.1
Software version 4.2.1 (2100) is IOS 4.3.1.
Apple TV 2G software version 4.1.1 is iOS 4.2.1
Software version 4.2.1 (2100) is IOS 4.3.1.
Thanks, that clears it up. Yeah no XBMC sound except static using HDMI here at 5.1 AC3/DD51. I don't know if anyone actually has it working.

I know this guy says he did it: http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=772...stcount=98

But the process he posted, while useful as a guide for setup, doesn't add any extra magic or anything. My guess is that he just is using 4.1.1 and not aware, maybe.
and i hink he just has the "right" av receiver Smile

You sure? In iOS build 8F202 I thought Apple upgraded the Apple TV software (4.2 to 4.2.1) but not iOS itself (seems like it stayed at iOS 4.3). If 8F202 was iOS 4.3.1 wouldn't the ipsw names have changed too? Anyway, here's the pages I used when I went digging.

@jd2157 you are correct, 4.2.1 (2100) is more like iOS 4.3 as it was released before iOS 4.3.1. However, for all intent and purposes for JB it is considered in the 4.3.1 family.

@BDPNA & @Memphiz if you read further in the post you will see that I also have the AC3/DTS issues, but at least now they are decoding. Keith, the guy who is lovingly working on the ATV2 build for us, states that he has no issues what-so-ever with AC3/DTS over HDMI and he lists his components. If you need it and can't get the latest build to work then I suggest you go back to 4.1.1 (iOS 4.2.1 equivelent). However, Keith has mentioned that he should have a newer build by this weekend, next week at the latest. If you can hold off for just a bit longer, maybe this tweak will correct your issue. Be warned, though, that he says that he is not specifically addressing any audio issues.
