RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - drhill - 2016-05-19 (2016-05-19, 19:34)Tinwarble Wrote:(2016-05-19, 14:06)drhill Wrote: I'd be fine with that if they would just come out and say it publicly. It is probable the most requested video feature on their boards and has been for a bunch of updates request threads. I wish they would also clean up their TrueHD implementation so that it could work in ExoPlayer instead of getting massive underruns. ExoPlayer matters to me. I wrote my own Plex client that uses ExoPlayer for which I've had submitted code be accepted to get VC1 and PCM to work (PCM 8/24 bit is converted to 16 bit as PCM Float encoding only does two channels because Google). I also added PGS subs but didn't submit that as it was in my app not ExoPlayer though I'd be fine cleaning it up if they wanted me to add it. I decode audio using ffmpeg when passthrough and system decoding isn't available. Right now I'm just doing a second pass of cleaning up some of my ugly code. I'm much happier with it then I ever was with Kodi/Plex as both had issues or quirks. Even my wife is ok with it, which was surprising. I'll probably even add PIP support whenever N comes out. The only thing I have missing is VC1 in the Nexus Player (could do ffmpeg, but their decoder is single threaded and the NP isn't up to snuff for that) and TrueHD passthrough. I've taken a few stabs at different times but the best I got was choppy sounds with buffer underruns. Looking at Koying's changes it seems like pauses need to be added and I don't know if that would fly in ExoPlayer. Everything else works without a hitch when playing any track. Actually voice and notification integration isn't on app developers. If you watch Apple's demo of their system it is quite nice ( hudder for complimenting apple: ) and nothing like what Google provided for TV. RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - Draghmar - 2016-05-19 I can't seem to find proper answer for that...Is there samba support built in Shield? Not the samba server but client that would make possible to attach network share to the file system. And I don't mean through Kodi but system-wide. RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - drhill - 2016-05-19 No. You would have to use another app. RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - Draghmar - 2016-05-19 Ok but is this app makes attached folders visible to other apps? RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - sebvalmontx360 - 2016-05-19 Just apps with App support could access SMB. However, you can open the file from SMB using some file explorer that supports it and send the file to another app. For instance, you can access a SMB share using ES Explorer and open a video file using MX Player. RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - Draghmar - 2016-05-19 Yeah I know I could that this way but it's not as convenient as native support. I've seen some root solutions that should work which means that at least there is a way to enable if I would really need it. Just why Google made so many poor decision regarding this stripped version of linux... RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - _Spook_ - 2016-05-20 Anyone know if the 3.2 firmware package will make it possible to play HDR 10bit files in Kodi/SPMC or is it just for Netflix/Youtube? Nice!! Maybe this can be an incentive for Nvidia to put MVC on Shield tv!!! Tegra X1 can also decode MVC. The whole software stack (kernel-decoders-renderers) must also support 3D before you see it on your TV... I'm not very optimistic for that though. Edit: While I agree with Koying about it not being a given it will be supported (Sony's 2nd gen Google tv box had MVC in the specs) the Mi's spec page doesn't list MPEG2 or VC1 and I would be shocked if the hardware can't decode those. They are just choosing not to license them, which is silly in regards to MPEG2 as they won't be able to support LiveTV. Side question, doesn't the patent on MPEG2 expire this year? I feel like I read that somewhere a year ago. RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - Koying - 2016-05-20 IMHO, too much conclusions are drawn out of a "marketing" spec page. Buzz is bad. Reviews are good RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - hansolo - 2016-05-20 I doubt we will see ever MVC on Shield. What legal content is available? 3D prosumer cameras are harder to find than hen's teeth. On TV Samsung has 3D MVC playback (mkv from USB) but ,,degraded" with new TV generations. Maybe content owners had a talk with them... That's the opposite of what that company is about from what I've seen. Legal means different things in different countries, but Nvidia did add TrueHD support and there is no TrueHD content that isn't from a blu ray disc. RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - sdsnyr94 - 2016-05-23 Hey guys and Gals - After some frustrations with my Wetek Core, I bit the bullet and ordered the Shield TV.. it will be here tomorrow. I plan on using SPMC for Kodi playback... is there a central list of Shield specific tips/tricks/tweaks (both Kodi/SPMC and non-Kodi related?) |
