People should also remember the power of product placement ( that fat P that comes on )
this gives alot of revenue whether it be from the cigs on display in the cabin on corination st ( yes i know thats ITV ) or the dildos they advertise on hollyoaks ( alot of strange things happen on hollyoaks - its like a porno without the actual sex bit ( there's one for the psychology course ))
so yeh - we've already paid for most of it by smoking their tabs, drinking their wkds and buying their dildos or whatever crap they're selling

Its not only XBMC have been effected, i use this brilliant free media server called Serviio, it used 4oD plugin (in Groovy programming language) that got the programs streams on TV without any expensive hardware. Still iPlayer and ITV Player works really well, even better quality than XBMC.
The reason for the better quality is the TV is used using its own media chip via DLNA compared to external hdmi connected box.
Best part you can use your own TV remote.
We just have to wait till FFmpeg can decode the new streaming these sites are using

On the face of it, the reason why the plugins have stopped working is that Channel4 have moved all their stuff away from the PS3 subdomain at http://ps3.channel4.com ... the XBMC add-on tapped into that resource, and now that that is no more, the add-on in its current release has nothing to tap into anymore. But from what Mossy has been saying, it appears they have also changed the actual stream parameters (and apparently it's very difficult to figure out a workaround). So in a way it's a double whammy for us here.
I'm not a particularly gifted programmer myself and know very little about app programming, let alone Python, but my money is still on trying to reverse engineer the new PS3 app to find out just how exactly it communicates with 4oD's servers and requests streams. That way maybe it will be possible to mimic the PS3 app, and Channel4 will be none the wiser.

Hi
New to this do i just download the two zips needed and place them on my sd card and put that in my black box then go settings and install from zip...then go to the external sd card as nothing is showing there but i placed the two zips in the sd card
Sorry to sound a noob but thats what i am when it comes down to all this as only just recently got started with xbmc

Is channel 4 blocking the add-on related to the fact that you cannot access the 4od channel through the YouTube add-on?

@carbuncle - Nothing to do with YouTube.
The issue is that Channel 4 has locked down their streams with DRM and XBMC is unable to deal with any form of DRM. The broadcasters are concerned that if they don't protect their streams people will grab the content and watch it outside the rights that they've negotiated or, worse still, flog it/pirate it.
So, the "in-house" programs that the broadcasters provide are a balance between doing what viewers want (open access, watch from anywhere) and what the rights-holders want (content control, accountability, payment).
This is a circle that is very difficult to square with global access such as the Internet.

All platforms are DRM protected.
The only way to get it working again is for someone to crack the encryption.
