tried a slightly different body shape (indicated legs an smaller "head"). And somebody had the idea to use "Zapy" [still working title] for genre icons and wanted to see a Zylon version of it - there you go Wink (it's just a quickie though). But now, back to work Sad

You have my vote if it were worth anything! Great work!

da-anda Wrote:Actually I didn't plan to compete, but all those great contributions gave me quite some inspiration so that I had to stop working and start draging some vectors. My idea was to pic up the shape of the current logo, so that there is already some basic recognition with XBMC.

Ladies and gents, let me introduce you "Zapy" [working title, open for suggestions]

Image

Those are just some rough sketches where I tried to show how this mascot could be used. Also the shading is missing in the small versions and the shape of the body is not yet setteled in those. As you might have noticed, he has a display for his eyes, but this one can also display anything else of course, like you see in the lower two rows. And for all those that don't like cute avatars, there is this gray/silver version for you (hope you get it Wink)

I don't have some splash screens with Zapy on to show, because I don't think we need the mascot on there (KISS) - but if you guys feel like, one could of course be created once needed.

Open for comments/suggestions.

Out of all submissions so far
this one is the truly original and inspired (on xbmc existing art, even removing xbmc txt thats it) the rest are just knock offs and rip offs of some type or another... Who ever is paying attention to previous released art on the Intranet, copyrights etc, which only this submission does not plagiarize or infringe. (though I dont think the terminator txt bubble can be used on final)

of course for pure artistic value discounting the other naf submission this one already won for me not only it add combinations of the character but it embodies all uses for xbmc. All the ingredients for a success no matter which situation, its covered...

If this doesn't win, whoever is choosing needs pair of glasses and check the rules.

name wise I suggest "Lil MC" (like the rappers and media center) as the character has no resemblance to a remote nor is xbmc a remote. zpy implies some remote connotations imho

be looking forward to see finished shaded art.

Lil MC has my vote or call him zapy so he gets bullied at school...

Wow, zapy is awesome! Definetely like the genre icon idea for zapy.

Can you please show us all the proof in witch you base your affirmations?

- Hudson_Hawk04 - 2011-05-13

If I may make an observation, I would shoot for a mascot, thats not going to look dated within a year or two, but maybe shoot for something that would be easy attempt to keep current without having to re-invent the wheel every time.

That's some mighty fine double speak. There are numerous original submissions. And like someone pointed out with their peacock, they don't even get NBC in their country.

If this doesn't get picked there is no justice in the world.

First of, thanks (I guess), but I can't second that. The other contributions are just great and as "unique" as mine. I'm sure that someone somewhere in the world already had a similar idea (like the peacock contribution, which is a nice idea and well done btw) and did a similar drawing or will do so in future. That's life - we all are collecting impressions every day and combine them to something new. And because we nowadays share a lot of those impressions due to globally broadcasted TV shows, the internet etc. sometimes they look more ore less like ideas somebody else already had - that doesn't automatically make them a rip-off. You'll notice a real rip-off and from what I can say I haven't seen any in here so far.
Of course there are some submissions that reuse art from others, but as I see this, it's for them currently the only way to express their ideas - so what. In my eyes the idea and the fact that they contribute count in first place - redrawing/polishing can also be done later for those by one of the community members with according skills if needed.
