[LINUX] XBMC gets to splash screen and then crashes. - richeerichhh - 2011-05-19 Hi Forum, before I begin heres what I'm working with. XBMC Dharma 10.1 Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx Linux Kernel 2.6.32-31 Architecture i686 Install Method: Added these debs to my "Software Sources" Code: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu lucid main Code: sudo apt-get install python-software-properties pkg-config All I did was went to Applications/Sound & Video and clicked on XBMC. XBMC briefly produces a splashscreen and then crashes. Debug Log http://pastebin.com/hHp2M4MN Backtrace http://pastebin.com/wkQCRg8B Really looking forward to some help here. Thanks in advance Rich - richeerichhh - 2011-05-20 Can someone please help me? I can't get past the splashscreen. - X3lectric - 2011-05-20 you need xbmc xbmc-bin xbmc-data xbmc-skin-confluence If you install standalone it will install xbmc-live i think that breaks gdm I presume your running full desktop not xbmc-live style, but you posting on a xbmc-live help thread so You will need the all of xbmc xbmc-bin xbmc-data xbmc-skin-confluence xbmc-standalone xbmc-live idk also knowing your hardware wouldn't be so bad... Please give xbmc dharma 10.1 a wiz, after compiling from git (see my sig) if that doesn't work grab the xbmc-live 10.1 and test. - richeerichhh - 2011-05-20 Thanks for your response. All those packages you mentioned, (xbmc xbmc-bin xbmc-data xbmc-skin-confluence) were already installed as dependencies. Synaptic's good with that. Your correct, I'm running XBMX Linux, please correct me if I'm wrong but the Forum above says XBMC for Linux AND XBMC Live, since I installed XBMC Linux, I thought I posted in the right forum. My Hardware is as stated: MSI Nvidia 790i Motherboard 4GB DDR2 Ram Nvidia 8800 GTS 640MB -using Ubuntu's graphics driver version 173 Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatalty Platnuim I'm not opposed to compiling Dharma 10.1 from git although your instructions seems to be only for XBMX Live. Is it the same instructions for XBMC Linux? - X3lectric - 2011-05-20 Right you drivers are way too old, perhaps you may want to upgrade to latest? please use this ppa to upgrade them https://launchpad.net/~team-iquik/+archive/nvidia-vpau Dharma 10.1 does not need compiling its on the official repositories that you are using, GIT trunk however is not. Also you could be missing the xbmc-standalone package.... then you can setup a xbmc session and boot staright into xbmc. if so try to start xbmc with xbmc --standalone or just xbmc And last, yes the Git compile works for all (ubuntu) platforms (except natty) since it only compiles the binary and system files which is what is required to run the latest xbmc from GIT. I would recommend you backup/image your system just in case either way before you start tinkering. Personally I rather have a XBMC-live like install for HTPC... You can still have a web browser, thers plnty of how tos, in forums... all else failing idk, I hate full desktop... |
