The Crystal is a mini-PCI card that contains a hardware accelerator for video decoding. It works exceedingly well and at one time looked as if it was going to take over as the standard for decoding compressed video. Sadly I suspect the market has decided in favour of the rather less reliable decoding provided by the video card manufacturers.

Note that the Revos have only one mini-PCI slot and this is normally occupied by the wireless network card, so you have to discard the wireless networking to install the Crystal card. Also I'm not sure if XBMC support for the Crystal card is still being maintained.
