Usenet Server Recommendations - aoaaron - 2011-07-13

I'm considering Astraweb at the moment. I'm based in the UK and I've heard people say whats good for the US, isn't good for the UK (?).

Any recommendations please? I measured my internet download on speedtest and its at 12MB. Ideally filling out that connection would be awesome on downloads. Anything which is capable is welcomed. Smile

I'm with Astraweb (I'm UK based) and cannot fault it.

Currently I do the $25 per 180Gb download.

50 connections and my dl speed is always maxed out (i'm on 30Mb cable)

And i use NZBmatrix as my searcher. Go VIP (one-off payment of £7, well not one-off but it lasts 10years!) for inc. retention, unlimited daily nzb's and API key for Sickbeard etc.

Hope this helps.

Astraweb, totally.

I've gone back and forth between Astraweb and Giganews, and I always keep coming back to Astraweb for both service and price.

I think I have finally learned to stop letting Giganews tempt me we stupid "temporary" offers and VPN service that doesn't do much of anything.

But I digress--totally go Astraweb. You won't be disappointed. You'll forget all about them, in fact, because you will never have any problems, and they will automatically bill you. You'll just start taking them for granted. It's really wonderful.

I'm in the US, btw.

check out this one that I am using to support Couch potato

https://usenetserver.com/partners/?a_aid=couchpotato&a_bid=3f357c6f

unlimited downloads
uncapped speed
1062 days of retention
20 connections
$10.00 per month (also support Couch potato)

Careful of that $11 offer, tis the only one that you have to contact them to cancel.

I'm on the 3 month $39 unlimited astraweb one and it's great. I'm only on 3mb service with sky but it's unlimited and downloading 24/7 via sabnzbd with VIP nzbmatrix!

Can't fault any of it. So much better than torrents!

okay its definitley astraweb vs. usenetserver... obviously thank to you guys think i'll pull the trigger with astra. anyone got any anti-usenetserver to make me feel a bit more happier Big Grin

btw guys, can you download off the serveres madeline (1998)... sorry j/w cos my sister was like "i bet you can't get that!".
also i like downloading fansubbed anime.. do these make there way onto usenet?

Umm, did anybody mention Astraweb?

- craigd - 2011-07-13

I'm in UK and using newshosting. $15 per month, unlimited bandwidth, 1062 days retention and SSL security.

I've been a member for years and never had a problem and rarely get incomplete files, they also are a couchpotato referer now which is nice.

- darkscout - 2011-07-13

You missed the deal but there was one yesterday that had 1TB for $50, which is hands down the best block deal I've seen.

blocknews has cheaper rates than astraweb.

astraweb if you want an 'unlimited' account.

- avus m3 - 2011-07-13

Any major difference between Atraweb and usenetserver.com (besides Atraweb being around for years and widely known). Pricing on the year plan for usenetserver is really cheap compared to others for unlimited with no cap.

- TREYisRAD - 2011-07-13

Astraweb! I use the unlimited for $11.

I also use a small 10gb block ($5) from https://usenet-news.net/ for backup. For reference, SAB used 0.3 GB from my backup after ~200GB of downloads, so 10GB should last a while.

- feerlessleadr - 2011-07-13

here is a site that has a bunch of 'deals' on usenet servers.

Most of the monthly subs are at 10 bucks a month, which looks to be the best price around for a month to month sub.

- aoaaron - 2011-07-13

haha alright so 100% going for Astraweb. I think I'll grab the 12month deal. 8$/amonth it works out to be is ridiculously low.

now for my backup/block account.. which is better to grab any missing pieces? blocknews looks good but will they be able to fill in the missing blanks better than other block accounts?
