- aptalca - 2011-11-11 What's the consensus on GT 520 as opposed to GT 430?? In this guide GT 430 is recommended for 3D, but I believe GT 520 also has HDMI 1.4a and is cheaper and there are fanless low profile options. I guess it is supposed to be less powerful (64bit vs 128bit), but for an htpc, are there any advantages in going with a GT 430? Thanks - eskro - 2011-11-11 if your going to record live HDTV, GT430 is better in de-interlacing 1080i content... - aptalca - 2011-11-12 Oh no, I won't have anything to do with live tv :-P I cut the cable two years ago, and I have espn3 for international soccer (xbmc addon works really well) :-) - eskro - 2011-11-12 then GT520 is perfect! - Suven - 2011-11-21 Hi, I'm in Group 3 but additionally I want: - A responsive XBMC-UI on Eden with many skins - Be able to browse the web and play flash and/or HTML5 movies (like southpark.com) - Emulate N64 and SNES Would that match group 5 then? - eskro - 2011-11-21 i'd say yes, better to go GROUP #5 A little confused - holeysocks - 2011-12-04 I am running a Foxconn A7GM-S AMD 780G 5.2GT/s assisted by a Radeon HD 4670 with 1gb..what group am I in Thanks - eskro - 2011-12-04 GROUP#5 to me - mcborzu - 2011-12-08 I'm a Group #2: Mostly SDTV with occasional 720 content.. Mostly just looking for a Kitchen HTPC, getting a little bored and frustrated by XBOX's limitations. My main question is does ATV2 handle lightwieght/medium skins like Confluence/Focus/Carmichael/Alaska well? - nvcleemp - 2011-12-18 I appear to be in group #1, as I don't own a HDTV. I just have this old thing with only two SCART connections. It serves me well, so I'm not immediately planning to buy a new TV. However I understand that XBMC no longer supports Xbox, so what would be the recommendation these days? A second thing I would like to ask is that maybe I would prefer to find a solution that prepares me for the future, i.e. it might very well be that my trusty old TV dies on me within the next year, so I would like a solution that I can use on my current TV with just the SCART connection (a S-video to SCART adapter is no problem) and that I could use in case I get a new HDTV. (I guess I would be in group #3 if I had a HDTV.) BTW, I have a set of USB hard drives that I liked to keep using, but I guess most solutions will have some USB ports. - Beer40oz - 2011-12-18 Group #69 - bluray - 2011-12-18 Beer40oz Wrote:Group #69That's very funny...no, s-video should be in group #68 and older! - eskro - 2011-12-18 Beer40oz Wrote:Group #69 1080p Flash Video on Linux? - sparky0 - 2011-12-27 Hi eskro, thanks for the awesome guides! I think I fall into Group #6. I plan to run Linux (XBMC Live, or GeeXboX, or OpenELEC). I am thinking the Zotac ZBOX-AD02-U would suit my needs well. The main thing I'm wondering about is if it will be able to handle 1080p Flash video (flv/f4v) without tearing, skipping, artifacts, out-of-sync, etc. Can it do this in XBMC on Linux? Also, I'm not sure if I want to spring for an SSD, or cheap out and try a USB thumb drive for the OS. (I will have bulk storage on the gigabit LAN.) Will the thumb drive be sufficient for any of the distros I mentioned above? Would there be a noticeable performance hit? Will swapping kill it? Thanks very much for any help. eskro Wrote:Group #6 - coffeeman - 2012-01-08 http://www.viako.com/viako/product_view.asp?idx=398 what you guys think about this.. ? asking around 600 dollars here in Korea. |
