Hi Eskro

Great topic. Very usefull!

I'm fairly new to XBMC and I think I'm in group 6/7

Group 6 because I'm thinking of buying the Zotac ZBOX Blu-ray AD05
And group 7 because I would like to view full hd 3d movies.

Is it not possible to watch 3d movies with the Zotac ZBOX Blu-ray AD05 then? If it's possible you should move the Zotac ZBOX Blu-ray AD05 to group 7 :-)

I think you are missing the point............decide what you want the HTPC to be capable of and then buy the required hardware. Don't buy the hardware first and then try to jam it into your preferred group.Confused

Group 7 here. God, I am such a whore to consumerism.

RE: From which Group do you belong!? - dmeinder - 2012-10-09

Hi, I've just started doing research on my XBMC needs, and while I'm quite tech savvy, I'm quite confused.

What I want:
- HD 1080P
- HD Bitstream

Options:
-nettop
-android set top box

My confusion regarding capabilities regarding my needs is due to the several configurations available, eg, Linux, windows, android..etc
and with new machines like the G-box on Android and/or nettop machine conbined with latest XBMC version have me very confused.

Can someone please help me to find the absolute cheapest easiest solution?

Note that I want 2 machines, one for living room home theater where my receiver will do the bulk of audio decoding, and other machine for bedroom where just connected to TV via HDMI.

I think I'm group 6 because of the bitstream, but in reading, the latest version of XBMC can bitstream audio.....also why is it that the zotox boxes use AMD for bitstream and intel for the lower group?

Thanks everyone....looking forward to respones

Intel HD1000/newer and AMD HD5450/newer should be able to playback 1080p video and bitstreaming HD audio....

Just out of interest for a newbie, as this was posted over a year ago, how would you change it today?

Thanks

If you wanted to stick as close to this as possible but be more up-to-date (Ivy Bridge)

Pentium G2120
H77 motherboard
No video card (integrated GPU is good enough for 95% of features and can always be added later)
Apex MI-008, MI100 or Rosewill RS-MI-01
Silenx IXP-76-18, EFX-12-12 or EFX-12-15
Kingston HyperX 4GB DDR3-1600
Crucial m4 or Samsumg 830 64GB SSD (or 128GB when on sale for $20 more)

It's more than enough......or this cheaper AMD A6-5400K....

RE: From which Group do you belong!? - Emisand - 2012-11-10

What is the best HTPC option for a truly #7 group having the size of a ZBOX?

I read about the ZBOX ID82, but it looks like the HD 3000 is a little short for some video formats.
I also want to use it for console emulators like Dolphin.

So it must be a SFF like ZBOX, enough power for FULL SBS 3D movies and console emulators.

If 3d is your main concern, you might want to check out "ASRock's Vision HT 321B", and this guy tested several mini HTPC- The HTPC Experience. It's the most consistence with all the tests they threw at it.....

Or this beautiful "Arctic MC101 Barebone (A10)"......it's equipped with the most powerful iGPU of all all-in-one CPU...

RE: From which Group do you belong!? - m.13 - 2012-12-04

Group 8 ??

all of group 7 plus add:
wants to stream & record (up to 3 streams) live TV with HD Homerun Prime

Is that a viable group here?

Edit, after reading thread, I see that is a viable group as this post reveals: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=105965&pid=1077622#pid1077622

I think the device I have fits the bill. Shuttle XS35GTv2 (2nd generation ION platform: Intel Atom with onboard NVIDIA card) running xbmcbuntu with full vdpau acceleration.

CPU usage during video playback is <10% because everything gets offloaded

* Concerning the streaming of The Blaze I can't advice you. I think it might clash with your preference for linux.

+ Why use deragatory terms on this forum? You could have just stated you do not want/prefer not to have AMD or ATI processors in the system.

Will the Giada Slim i33 fit into group 6? I'm specifically interested if it will bitstream hires audio with frodo.

Thanks.
