>>X<<' Wrote:Why do you want to use it anyway when DSPlayer now supports subs ?

Because the subtitles in DSPlayer doesn't actualy support all ASS features.
All the test files i used to check/test standard player for either regression or other things, have failed at one point or another with DSPlayer.

I know if you read my post I added an edit

>>X<<' Wrote:Edit : Just read your other posts so now know why

Like I said Directvobsub will work with external subs but not using DXVA

Cant you use ffdshow subs they use to work not sure if they do now ? ? ?

Sorry, i've read your edit too fast, and misunderstood it's meaning. Didn't see the your, so i've thought that everything after the edit was add when you edited, and thought that after reading other posts (in general), you've find out how to use directvobsub... A total misunderstanding from me...

Being under XP, i've no access to DXVA, but i don't mind, i've built my PC with an i7@870, so largely powerfull enough for CPU decode. (Don't know if the ffmpeg version used is the multi-threaded version).
The only problem i have with with standard player is 10bit h264. Workaround i use is to play file with 10bit in name with MPC-HC. ffmpeg will be updated sooner or later, and after that, for me, i didn't have any interest in dsplayer... Maybe a very little thing. Using Haali spliter allowed mkv with opening & ending linked to external files to actualy linked these files during the play. Nice feature, but not critical. And, working with only external subs is unfortunately not of use for me.
Well, i'll simply wait ffmpeg update...

You have DXVA in XP when you use MPC-HC video codec (MPCVideoDec) along with DSPlayer that's why a lot of XP users use it, you don't have DXVA in XBMC when using the default player "DVDPlayer" because it uses DXVA2 which isn't supported by XP

I did a fresh install of latest build, ran it in portable mode with stock everything except my movie database. When I try to start a movie with DSPlayer it doesn't play. I have no idea why. Looks like all filters are loading.

Log here, any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm desperately trying to make XBMC usable and after weeks of struggling I'm starting to think it might not be possible for me. With DVDPLayer, I get shit playback in software, horrible pixelization when skipping with DXVA, immersion-killing dumps to desktop in fullscreen mode and again shit playback with tearing in windowed mode. With DSPLayer I am not yet getting anything at all.

Log here, please help: http://pastebin.com/UNvHVDw7

Gents,

Here is a lame question...

Ive read through all 24 pages and I am a little confused. How much tweaking is required to get this to work. I read through the setup on page one, but am confused as to how much of this is already done.

I tried the July version of Eden with the HD-audio patch, but it has issues. I would love to try this but am a little intimidated with making all those .xml files in the read file. Is this mandatory to get it to work, or do I just need the build and ffdshow?

Sorry for the lame question.

Mark

Not a lame question in the least. DSPlayer can seem initimidating at first, but don't be put off by all the mumbo jumbo. In essence, you will only have to tweak the xml files if you want to use something which isn't set-up by default, which essentially as you've already figured out involves having a copy of ffdshow installed and configured on your machine.

The default settings use mpc-hc codec for playback which for most users is perfectly acceptable, however ffdshow dxva, LAV etc can also be used and there lies the beauty of dsplayer, total control and configurability - you decide what level of tinkering you want to do.

Have a go and if you need any help just post here.

I'm also confused!

Is ffdshow included in the build?

The setup instructions state that:

ffdshow is already declared in the mediasconfig.xml shipped with dsplayer. The only things you need to do is to find the rule tag for mkv file, and change ...

Do I have to edit the file or not?

Also:

You can also make DSPlayer your default player in editing the advancedsettings.xml file like that : ....

Do I have to edit these settings also?

You have to download ffdshow and install it, it's not included.
By default ffdshow is used for audio and MPC filters for video, you don't have to edit any file to get that working.
The MPC filters are included though.

If you want to use DSPlayer as the default player for video then you have to create the advancedsettings.xml file described in the manual.

Thanks.

Appreciate it may be confusing, but See the first post - 6th line (the one in bold Wink). What is declared is the filter guid etc required to load and use ffdshow, not the app itself.

You don't have to edit the advancedsettings, but you do have to create the file and place it in the appropriate place - "%appdata%\XBMC\userdata". Copy the code into notepad and save as advancedsettings.xml.

Good luck

EDIT - must type faster in future

- castalla - 2011-11-02

Okay ... will give it a try.

Just a nit-pick: if this build is for dsplay, then why not include the advancedsettings.xml file by default?

Code:
19:07:11 T:1244  NOTICE: Found screen: Generic Non-PnP Monitor on Intel(R) G41 Express Chipset, [b]adapter 0[/b].
19:07:12 T:1244   DEBUG: CRenderSystemDX::CreateDevice on [b]adapter 0[/b]

I think that may be the cause of your problem. XBMC is using the intel graphics not the 8400gs.

Try launching XBMC on the screen connected to the 8400gs instead.

castalla Wrote:Just a nit-pick: if this build is for dsplay, then why not include the advancedsettings.xml file by default?

A: It's not included in XBMC by default, I will not change that and I probably can't change it.
B: Some people like to use playercorefactory.xml instead.

That's why.
