[LIVE] So Lost; Help with updating XBMC - XELOR - 2011-09-05

Hello all. A couple of years ago I spent a week or so setting up a Acer Aspire Revo AR1600-U910H Intel Atom 230 (1.6Ghz) 1GB DDR2 160GB NVIDIA ION following this guide.

I knew I would forget everything but left notes about how to update xbmc as the version I currently have loaded is 9.04beta1. Can I update using PPA's only Jaunty 9.04 or can I even use Maverick 10.10? Is there any benefit? I would like to update xbmc but not lose library, all of the episodes I have watched/not watched etc.

Any advice would be great.

you should backup .xbmc folder first. then backup your library if it's not in your .xbmc folder or one of its subfolders. I would do I clean install on your Acer because some things may break and there will probably be a newer version of ubuntu that your current system isn't running that you won't get from just updating xbmc via PPA.

Source: I was in the same boat two weeks ago and did what I just mentioned - a clean install. Everything's much better on this side of the field.
