I just installed the latest nightly. I have been using AFP a few days now with no problems and better performance than NFS.

However with the new build installed i can no longer get it to update my library. Its scans movies and tv show but dosnt find anything.

This is what it says in the log (the same lines for all my content):

[HTML]01:02:03 T:122101760 DEBUG: AFP: Using anonymous authentication.
01:02:03 T:122101760 DEBUG: VideoInfoScanner: No (new) information was found in dir afp://10.0.1.8:548/tvshows/Entourage/[/HTML]

However i know that there are new shows to update. Any ideas?

hmm... update.. some might need the beginning of the scan log:

not related to afp ... others are reporting this too...

(I shudder to think what adding hundreds of videos, including thumbnails and fan art stored on the server with the videos, back to my video/movie library would be like, if there weren't some kind of global search and replace option.)

And a related question: I'm using a shared library with MySQL running on the same server as my media library and master XMBC installation. So, on this server the shares are all local (and AFP doesn't seem to work since it is on the same machine - which makes sense)..

Is there a way to substitute the local links to AFP links on the ATV2?

Network links will still work even on the local machine. If AFP isn't working for this then post your XBMC.log (with debugging on) and maybe we can see what's happening.

Heres the log from my Mac Mini that encounters the problem. Tried with both the local name of the Machine as well as IP without success... Might be something I have configured wrong?

try adding your afp source manually as afp://user:password@ip/share. For ip don't use 127.0.0.1 but the lan ip of your macmini.

Didn't work either, but found a link regarding pathsubstitution and that seems to do the trick!

Just wanted to say that it works very well for me on my iPad. Performance is much better than the FTP solution.

I have two Windows XBMC install. They don't have AFP support, correct?

Not yet. We have to bait one of the Windows devs into including it.

This thread has come into being as if by magic at the exact moment I needed it. Thank you, wizards.

I have the latest jailbreak forvthe atv 2 and have enabled afp on my new iMac when i add a source, with zeoconfig I see the public folder but not my movie folder, this is on my external USB drive I have gone into sharing and set this to share but it won't show up
Have I missed a step!!

Atv 2
Software 4.22
And latest build 2011916

Paul

Been on google this afternoon, I think the problem is that my usb drive is formatted as ntfs, I take that means that the atv 2 cannot see that format if i use the afp function on the iMac, its lists the public folder, and my external drive but because the usb drive is ntfs it can't, is this correct?? If thats the case is there a workaround, I have over 500gig of movies, on the drive and I really don't want to have to reformat.

Thanks

Paul

AFP is AFP ... as long as your AFP Server (your imac) let you enable shareing for the drive it shouldn't matter which filesystem is on it. Did you try to add the source manually with username and password? (zeroconf only can do anonymous auth - if you didn't have configured your macosx for allowing this - it will fail ...)

So try to add your source manually as

Code:
afp://username:password@ipofyourimace/sharedfolder
