my first HTPC build - stadtjunge - 2011-10-04

with the recommendation of another XBMC user, i've developed my first HTPC build:

Asus Eee EB1012P
Kingston 8GB SD card (for OS)
4GB Crucial RAM
HP IR Receiver

D-Link ShareCenter Pulse DNS-320
(2) 2TB WD Caviar Green drives

I am excited to get all the gear and try my hand at installing XBMC.

are there any items I'm missing? anything that I should be cautious of?

Thanks in advance!

for the record, 4GB's of ram is too much....

OpenELEC runs fine even on 1GB...

XBMC will run on 4GB of ram though, right?

the price difference wasn't much, and i'm a fan of overkill.

well, 4GB's for you then Tongue

A fan of overkill (or heck just a fan of decent performance) would get a real SSD for the OS rather than try to run off a SD card. I have done both and the superior controllers and memory used in a SSD makes it night and day. And you linked a Class 4 card- mine was a class 10 and my slowest SSD would still run rings around its boot time!

Seriously, even this SSD will destroy that SD card:

I had similar thoughts but did not know where to begin.
