ATV2, iOS 4.4.1, XBMC Update - thechrisreese - 2011-10-18

Hopefully no devs will get annoyed with me asking, but Seas0nPass just got an update for a tethered jb but I will not update until XBMC is compatible.

Any word on when XBMC will be ATV2 iOS4.4.1 compatible?

UPDATE:
- The nightly builds are compatible with the latest ATV2 Software 4.4.2. No update on an untethered jailbreak yet.
- The Jailbreak FAQ has a link to the Seas0npass blog post for ATV2 4.4.2 if anyone wants to monitor the status of their jailbreaks.

I also have the same question.. the new iOS update is important due to airplay mirroring.. But XBMC is more important .. hence I am patiently waiting for XBMC support for the new OS..

I don't know the actual answer to this but I suspect it will be - "when it is ready"

- cosmicr - 2011-10-19

What would happen if I tried to install XBMC anyway?

We have a winner Smile

About the only thing any of us can do is wonder out loud how it's going in hopes one of the devs will share. Anything more than that is pretty irritating to them I suspect.

here's your one warning:

Warning: do not update.

It would install. But it would not work.

Does this (https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/commit/037c3a4f0646126b3b64e0041f4cd9360c593612) solve the problem of XBMC not working on iOS5 on atv2 (aka 4.4)? Or are there still other problems?

I bet its ready in 6 month ... for sure ... Big Grin ... and a second warning:

Don't update.

Since i am a pussy [tm] - i won't start playing with ios 4.4/5.0 until a untethered jailbraik is out.

3rd ... don't update Big Grin

- mdiersma - 2011-10-21

i like living on the edge Big Grin

Just tested it on my ATV2.
it goes wrong at.

Unpacking org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2 (from .../org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_10.0-9_iphoneos-arm.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_10.0-9_iphoneos-arm.deb (--unpack):
failed in buffer_write(fd) (7, ret=-1): backend dpkg-deb during `./Applications/XBMC.frappliance/XBMC': No space left on device
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe: 13)
Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_10.0-9_iphoneos-arm.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

there is plenty of space... so it must be something else... don't know what.
Permissions are ok on the /Applications/ folder but XBMC.frappliance doesn't get created.

ah well have to wait after all Big Grin

plenty of free space (6GB). i get this error as well after doing a fresh jailbreak on atv2 using the latest seas0n pass.

- jarvismeier - 2011-10-21

Problem solved!!! I ran seas0npass on my mac (osx lion) instead of my windows 7 machine and xbmc installed successfully.
