Tv out for xbmc on ipad - markus3000 - 2011-10-20

I do search for answers but unfortunetly tv out is to short of a word to search for. Is there any plan on a tv out feature or plugin planned for the next xbmc for ios?

- lowridin_guy - 2011-10-21

I know there are some jailbreak options that will enable TV out from the iPad/iPhone. I am picking up a component adapter this weekend to try it out but I have no doubt it will work with one of the programs. It basically mirrors the image that is on the iPad out.

I don't think a "plugin" or "feature" is needed within XBMC.

native iOS video output isn't yet supported in XBMC, but hopefully (*nudge nudge*) it will be in the future. Right now only mirroring is supported, which on an iPad isn't that bad because it's just shy of real 720, but on an iPhone is suffering (no retina display on there either).

Considering you can do 1080 output on the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4S (the only iOS devices that can do so), I think interest in native video-out will increase and we'll eventually see it.

why do you need xbmc to do this?

can't you just play the video in the regular ipad player?

- markus3000 - 2011-10-21

Thanks for the info. I too have Displayout from cydia, but,as you said Ned Scott, it just doesnt have the same quality as native tv ouput beacuse i do use my iphone with it. I do really hope the include a native tv out for it soon

For several reasons, I find that mkvs play more smoothly thru xbmc than any player I've tried, and I have tried them all. I dont unrar my files so xbmc will play rar'd movies as opposed to others. Also I find it easier to use xbmx when playing from SD cards since i dont have to muddle with ifile everytime when i use other players...since I have an sd/hdmi adapter.

Do you think it would help to make a suggestion in the development thread? I went back thru several pages and didnt see anything but almost have to assume that it has been suggested several times. Didnt want to start a new thread over there on it...

I think we are (or at least i am) aware of this feature request. But its a bit hard to be done right - because xbmc isn't constructed for serving a second display with different content (what we would like to accomplish i think ... when plugging in the ipad to a tv it would be cool to have some controls on the ipad then right?).

Its a beast and hopefully after eden (might be far far after eden) - i'll get some time for digging with this again.

Thats what i've done so far and its still unusable and full of bugs Sad

So any ios dev around - feel free to lend me a helping hand - including the arm, the head and the brainjuice ... Wink

Doesnt RAR'd movies:
A) Not save any significant space
B) Add extra overhead to CPU (not only decode and display but now uncompress on top of this)

*This is probably a thread-jacking question

That would be perfect, never even thought of something like that. That would blow everything in the app store away. Glad there is interest in that feature, wish i had the kno how to help.

some devs out there who want to code the fullscreen option on ipad2 mirroring while using xbmc and playing movies (especially 720p and 1080p)? would be really nice since XBMC can play these movies on the ipad2 screen but not with the "right" resolution since ipad2 isnt that big as a full hd tv!

Read the thread. We have devs who want to do this/ are interested in trying, but it's a very big task to get right (remember, XBMC is not a normal iOS application). It will just take time, assuming it's feasible.

I really don't know what you all mean with tv-out.

Big Grin

PS: theres still a lot of work to do (cleaning up the code, hiding the flicker by smooth transition, making the idevice a touchpad while tvout is active for controlling the mouse).

Memphiz, I want to have your babies
