Remotes with mouse/keyboard ability - roland6543 - 2011-10-30
Im looking for a remote that has reasonable cursor control plus the ability to enter alpha keystrokes. In particular it must be able to enter the password when logging into windows 7.
I've been monitoring a few remotes on ebay. Do you have any good/bad things to say about these options:

Finally, the HP type tranceiver seem to be frequently recommended. I'm not sure what the purpose of the transmitter part is. Can someone explain a typical use for the transmitter?

This one has a capacitive touchpad and I find it easy to use from couch compare to a wireless keyboard with touchpad.
But if you just need a remote (without keyboards) there are some recomended on Eskro's guide

Man that picture looks nice! I got the old fiddly one with the track ball. That looks so much easier to use (I presume that "trackball" is an optical mouse type device, like on the newer Blackberries).
I might have to keep my eye out for a deal on those. Gen 1 always comes up on sale, only seen the new ones few and far between.

Thanks for the comments. Lenovo looks nice. both are more expensive than I hoped to spend. Are there any options recommended for $30 pr less? The ones I posted links to - no good or just nobody with experience with them?

Lenovo N5902 was at %50 discount not too long ago :/
honestly, at $30, your stuck with the Rii Mini, and to me,
i havent had luck with them,,
range sucked, and some keys wouldnt be registered upon hitting them,,

I use the Logitech dinovo mini with my bedroom small form factor HTPC and love it. No complaints and it's bluetooth so I don't have to have LoS to use it. It has rechargeable batteries too.
