Failed to initialize audio - Failed to open VDPAU backend - jaeger2000 - 2011-11-13

Hello,

Fresh install, XBMC on Ubuntu 11.10.

When trying to play media >~350MB, in the XBMC GUI I receive the following error message and no sound plays:
"Failed to initialize audio"

All sounds work fine in the desktop, using XBMC menu and media <350MB.

If launching XBMC from the command line, playing a <350MB file produced the error message:
"Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_nvidia.so cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory".

This error makes sense as I don't have that video related file installed as I use an ATI graphics card.

Anyone solved this?

Dr Ian Gregory, Sydney.

Disable VDPAU in xbmc system, video
If you want hardware acceleration with ATI you might want to follow one of the guides(vaapi) in this forum
