For $119 shipped, you'll get a very well built Silverstone case and Silverstone included a very good 300w PSU too. I thought that it might be good for your A8-3870K build too...

If you want to read more customer reviews, you can read it here- Customer Reviews of the Silverstone SG06-B....

If you want to save a little more money, you can opt for 4gb of ram instead. 4gb is all you need for W7+XBMC HTPC.....

That is only 4gb of ram 2 x 2gb. I am looking on the ASRock site and it doesn't show this ram I got from eskros guide working with the motherboard. Any ideas?
Sorry, I was reading another thread. The guy had 2x4gb, and it stuck on me. AsRock is kinda picky on RAM. If you want to be 100% sure, the recommended RAM on their website are the safest choices.....here is one of the recommended RAM- Kingston HyperX X2 Grey Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3.

Damn, I already ordered it. Oh well I guess I will give it a try. I thought I had to have 1866.

I've also got an Avermedia tuner card in there and with Windows 7 Media Center have been testing live TV broadcast successfully.

I am planning exactly same build. What type of fan do you have on APU? Do you have some case fans? Is it silent?

I went with the Silverstone SG05BB-450 and LOVE the case! ventilation is extremely good and its near silent.

With the Silverstone case you can fit just about any cooler but for my build I used the Scythe SCKZT-1000. You need to adjust the fan speed in the bios on the Asrock board to 1 which will make it almost silent, then just set it to an auto temperature of your choosing and it will speed up if necessary.

Yes, that is a very nice one too but I preferred the 350w PSU in SG06B....

that one nice option about AsRock mobo...I just set the temperature to auto, and it's very silent (especially when HTPC is in an open cabinet)...

I have a build inspired by this build by Eskro.

A8 3850
asrock A75 Pro4
Kingston hyperx 8gb ram
Patriot torqx 64 gb sdd

I just put it together and I am not getting any video out - tried DVI and HDMI. I have a USB keyboard and mouse connected to the black ports in back.

Any ideas?

I would like to buy A8-3850 (or A8-3870) and Asrock motherboard and I have one question.

Is possible output sound thru HDMI and simultaneously thru optical output? I have receiver only with optical input and want connect HTPC to receiver thru optical and HTPC to TV thru HDMI. Sometimes I will want sound from receiver (i power on receiver and mute TV) and sometimes is sound from TV sufficient (i leave receiver power off). Is it possible without changing settings in XBMC (becouse it is not convenient for my wife and child)?

Why don't you connect it this way <HTPC-->AVR-->HDTV via HDMI cables and set AVR to pass-thru video>? If you want sound on AVR, you can simply turn on AVR and if you want sound on HDTV, you can simply turn off AVR and turn up the volume on HDTV....

I dont know about others but I dont trust AVR's to rout my hdmi, I would rather go directly to my TV for video. Another option you might consider is if your TV has a optical audio out you can connect that to your receiver and then just turn it on when you want sound from it.

Because my AVR doesnt have HDMI inputs... AVR has only optical and coaxial audit inputs.

My TV has optical audio out and I use it for connection with AVR for digital sound from TV (Sat broadcasting) but I am not sure, that TV could take audio from HDMI input and pass thru this audio to optical output for every possible standards (Dolby Digital, DTS, and so on).

I think that it will work better by connecting optical output from HTPC directly to optical input of AVR and HDMI output from HTPC to HDTV.......

Yes, I think so, this is only my reaction on suggestion of user "flymods".

And there is my first question: "Is possible output sound thru HDMI and simultaneously thru optical output? I want connect both (optical output from HTPC directly to optical input of AVR and HDMI output from HTPC to HDTV) and set in XBMC audio output to both output (optical and HDMI), and my question is if it is possible...

Due to HDCP protocol, HDTV might not be able to pass-thru audio through optical output...

I'm not sure that you can do both at the same time. For sure, you can switch it back/forth in audio setting section....

Yes, but changing audio settings is not too user friendly... Is possible link switching of audio output to some button on remote control?

I'm currently in the process of doing the research figuring out exactly what I'll be ordering for my htpc build. Currently I'm stationed overseas and there are no decent computer shops (for parts) near by. To make matters worse, Newegg and amazon will not ship to my APO address. That leaves me with Tiger Direct as the only other online company that I trust and enjoy. Problem is Tiger Direct does not carry any of the AsRock mobos. I'm currently trying to choose between the following two:

ASUS F1A75-M Pro/CSM AMD A Series Motherboard - Micro ATX, Socket FM1, AMD A75 Chipset, 2250MHz DDR3 (O.C.)
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1124771&CatId=7241

And

BIOSTAR TA75M+ AMD A Series Motherboard - Micro ATX, Socket FM1, AMD A75 Chipset, 2000MHz DDR3 (O.C.)
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=746852&CatId=7243

Both look quite decent to me, but I'm wondering if anyone has any extra opinions on them? There's a $19 difference in price, but I'm certainly willing to throw down extra money if it's worth it. These will be paired with the AMD A8-3870K APU.

My other question would be with RAM. In general is it better to go with more capacity at a lesser speed or vise versa? For example; CORSAIR DOMINATOR GT 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 runs for $109.99. Whereas Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x 4GB), PC3-12800, DDR3-1600MHz, Unbuffered runs for $49.99. That is a huge difference in price. So what's the best bang for the buck?
Thanks for any insight you may have.
