Dear Eskro, since I don't really like the look of the case, can I use any of these for my build maybe!?

http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=545&cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=64

http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=551&cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=63&g=

or http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=584&cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=64

I saw some of them could be bought in white, which I would like.

Thanks again.

well yeah u can use them,
just make sure you get the appropriate motherboard format (mini-ITX)..

RE: [Micro-ATX] A8-3850 (4x2.9Ghz) + HD6550D - dvined - 2012-04-25

Well, I have really tried to find a pretty one for the uatx, and they all seem very normal... If you have one you can recommend for looks, I'd be happy to look at it. I don't need a cd drive.

And thank you for answering.

You should be able to find a nice u-ATX case from this site- Silverstone....

After a fair bit of research I am about to replace my trusty laptop temporary htpc with a permanent build.

Will be going for the Bang of The Buck I found here (Australian localised prices/products etc)
http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/rmp_sg_whirlpoolpcs_htpc
which is very much the same as eskro's build
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=114890

Just a couple of questions what cables (ie sata etc) would I need to buy, (I have never built a computer before) and how much of each?

Antec NSK2480B with 380W PSU
AMD A8 3870 Quad Core Fusion Black Edition
ASRock A75 Pro4-M Motherboard
G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ (2x2GB) DDR3
TWO – (2) – Western Digital Green 2TB WD20EARX –

and probably a ssd for the operating system.

What kind of cables and tools etc do I need in addition to these.

Thanks

Scott

You'll enjoy your A8-3870K.....! As for the cables, mobo/case should includes enough cables for everything.....if you want watch the step by step video on how to build a computer, you can simply type "Newegg TV" in Youtube search box. They have very nice videos on how to build computer.....

First of all hello to all of you for the amazing thread!

I have been looking for an HTPC since last year learking from a far distance only and yesterday I have read the whole 28 pages of it and my head is still spinning.

Personnaly I have seen XBMC in action (under windows on a HTPC and WOW!)

So here are my questions:

1- Eskro: I have looked at your private setup : http://ow.ly/1uizZd and I would like to know. If you have to build for yourself a new HTPC, what would you getHuh

2- Based on my current setup what would I need to get everything working

My setup is :
NAS : QNAP TS-459 Pro II
Console : PS3
3DTV: Sony 46hx800
Network : 1 Gigabit cable connection & Wireless
TV signal : Antenna only
Amp : OLD yamaha ca-410
Speaker : 2 HPM60 Pionner speaker

Based on the information found in this thread, I beleive my situation is of a group 7.

What do I want! I want my HTPC boxe to be DEAD SILENT! So based on the your thread I am leaning towards:

Case: Lian Li PC-C37 or C39 or Antec Fusion V2 Silver or Antec – NSK2480B (I prefer slim case without too many light)
MOBO: ASRock A75M FM1 CIR USB3.0 SATAIII UEFI μATX or ASRock A75 Pro4-M
CPUGPU: AMD A8-3870 or AMD A8-3850 4x2.9GHz HD6550D FM1 100W
SSD: CRUCIAL M4 64 GO SATA REVISION 3.0
Ram: Corsair Dominator GT 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory (overkillHuh) or
KINGSTON HyperX Plug n Play
OS : Windows 7 Home (since I heard Bluerays cant be read under Linux, I might be wrong here)
Remote: Motorola NYXboard Hybrid
BR/DVD: Pioneer BDR-206DBK Read:8X Write:12X Access Time:170ms Cache:4MB
Fans : To be define
PSU : To be define PicoPSU considered
Tuner : Might add one at a later stage

2.1 - Will I be able to play games like Diablo 3 Huh (It is not a necessity)
2.2 - Could you please tell me if this setup is ok and what Fans, Cooler, PSU or PicoPSU I should getHuh
2.3 - I dont have spare cables or such to connect all the piece in the HTPC box, what else do I need to buyHuh

3.0 - I guess I will need a new amp... (I am tempted to use optical cables mostly and HDMI, I don't know much about this either Huh)

So thanks a lot for all your help, and please keep up the good work this thread is awesome

Best regards to all!

hi v8extra, create a new thread please,
all new builds like yours should have their very own thread.

RE: [Micro-ATX] A8-3850 (4x2.9Ghz) + HD6550D - scottyten - 2012-05-04

Mine finally arrived today, only problem was they ended up being out of stock of the ASRock A75 Pro4-M Motherboard, so I got to the Gigabyte A75M-UD2H Motherboard. Do you think this would be comparable/work.

I really trust your judgement, so I thought I'd better doublecheck

RE: [Micro-ATX] A8-3850 (4x2.9Ghz) + HD6550D - eskro - 2012-05-04

well, i have a gigabyte motherboard and it works great.

you should be fine...

however, you may not have all the USB features asrock motherboards have..
same for CPU FAN speed controls..

RE: [Micro-ATX] A8-3850 (4x2.9Ghz) + HD6550D - scottyten - 2012-05-05

I was under the impression that the motherboard or the cpu, came with a cpu cooler?
Do I need to buy one separately? Would you recommend a particular one?

Edit:
Disregard that it does :/
