those need to be hooked to 4pin fan headers on your mobo.

but as long as u buy a silent fan, i see little need to PWM fans attached to mobo fan header.

For what it's worth, I originally went with a silent 80mm fan that was listed in your thread. It worked well but was certainly audible. Decided to change it out for a PWM silent fan and it was a big difference. With the PWM fan scaled down I cannot hear the HTPC from my couch ten feet away. Not that a standard three pin fan is loud but I could definitely hear it.

So I'd recommend PWM if the mobo supports it.

fwiw, I tried getting away with the stock cooler and gave up after a week. It did fine keeping everything cool but it was loud. I didn't want to spend 50 on the big shuriken cooler but after installing it I can definitely say it was worth it.
Did you select "Cool N Quiet" option and lower CPU and case fans to level 2 in bios when you used stock CPU cooler?

Yes. Even at a low setting the stock cooler was louder than I wanted for an htpc. I did use it in my desktop as I was ok with the noise level for a pc in my office.

So, I bought this build, thanks eskro for putting it up. The ML03B case looks really nice, but I can't find a way to plug in the USB 3.0 connector to the ASRock A75M USB header. It looks like the motherboard only has USB 2.0 headers. Any idea, or am I missing anything?

Unfortunately, ASRock places all four USB 3.0 ports on the A75M's rear panel.......

You'll need this "ASUS F1A75-M LE - Motherboard - micro ATX - Socket FM1 - AMD A75 - USB 3.0 - Gigabit Ethernet" to use front USB 3.0.....

Damn ok. Is the A75M just a cheaper version of this A75-M LE?

I am looking at your AMD A8-3850 build, i might build one in the coming months, but out of curiosity what size is the fan that comes with the processor? Can the fan just be replaced without having to buy a hole new heatsink?

Ghost, I bought the shuriken everyone recommended http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185174&Tpk=N82E16835185174
It is a little louder than I expected, but it fits nicely, and at medium speed, almost inaudible. Easy to setup on that board too.

Only thing to note is that you won't be able to use the extra utility expansion slot that comes with the ML03B case, but I didn't find any use for it.

it's just a standard 80mm PWM fan. Yes you can replace the fan, but not with a bigger one. You might as well get a a whole new heatsink

Any reason to pick up the retail AMD A8-3850 over the OEM? The OEM package at Newegg is $85.

Thanks!

Hi guys. First of all thank you for this amazing review and HTPC combo, is really amazing and I'm trying to build it up... I live outside USA and the cost of shipping is in pounds (I live in Dominican Republic and it's a little expensive). My problem is with the Case and the Power Supply (Too heavy) and i was looking for some of them on my country, i've found a Case that meets my wishes:
Linkworld Electronic Home Theater Media PC Case it's 40 Dollars here.
I want to know if this Power Supply would work just fine in this HTPC:
Cooler Master RS550-PCARE3-US eXtreme Power Plus 550W it's 64 Dollars here.

This is the only part missing to assemble my HTPC, waiting for answers and thanks in advance Blush

I was in the market for a new HTPC, and I came across this thread and decided to go with this build.

I'm not an expert with computer installation, and so I didn't bother to look into the fine details of all the parts, and confirm that everything was compatible with each other.

Well, I hit the same roadblock as jubei (quoted above) and so I came here to find out that the recommended motherboard doesn't support the inputs located on the front of the case.

How come this isn't mentioned in the OP? Angry

So am I supposed to use the adapter that came with the case, that becomes a smaller USB connector?

You can use this adapter "StarTech.com PEXUSB3S2E2I 4 Port USB 3.0 PCI Express PCIe Controller Card".....
