Would love an update to this build, as some of the pieces are no longer available in Canada!

Hi, I was wondering if the ASRock A75M-HVS would also be suited for this build. It has another audio chip than the version without the HVS, would this be a problem? I couldn't make out any other differences, besides it's a little cheaper and currently available at my store. I'm also planning on getting the Silverstone GD06 case and a be quiet! Pure Power L7 300W, are there any known problems with this case and PSU?

i dont like the onboard audio of the ASRock A75M-HVS

RE: [Micro-ATX] A8-3850 (4x2.9Ghz) + HD6550D - deathbringer - 2012-10-06

Will the onboard audio be used when outputting audio over HDMI, or is this handled by the APU? I'm not planning on using any other audio output besides HDMI.

I'm having serious trouble with this HTPC build, I'm getting very annoying display errors, parts of the screen are flashing from time to time, mostly top or bottom of the screen. It's not a XBMC specific problem, it also occures in Windows
My setup: HTPC -> HDMI -> Denon AVR 1611 -> HDMI -> Samsung LE46F86
HTPC: ASRock A75M, AMD A8-3850, 2x4GB Kingston HyperX DDR3-1866, Windows 7 Home Premium SP1

I already updated the BIOS to the newest version (2.0), tried the newest Catalyst driver (12.8) and also an older version (12.1). Also tried to disable HD-HDMI-Audio in the BIOS and two different HDMI cables, but the occasional display errors remained. Since I only replaced my notebook with this new HTPC, there must be something wrong with the HTPC. Any suggestions what I could do to get this solved, or how to identify the faulty component, in case if it's a hardware-failure?

Since you are bitstreaming, I'm suggesting to un-install Realtek audio codec. You can try video configurations below-

1. If there is an option, you can set AVR to pass-thru video
2. Disable everything in CCC Video/Quality other than "Enforce Smooth Video Playback" as shown in my screen shot below
3. Enable DXVA2 and select DXVA as Render method and disable everything else in XBMC system/video/playback
4. Disable "Use fullscreen window rather than true fullscreen" in XBMC system/system/video output (note- if you use multiple apps, you need to enable it)

Thanks for the advice, I did all that, but it didn't help. Since the problem also occures while I'm on the Windows desktop (no video playing) I think it's a general problem. Here's a short video were you can see the flashing: www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5d_vcpK4J4
First flash is at ~0:10, second at ~0:36, then ~0:55 and then in windows at ~1:38

I just changed the setup for testing: HTPC -> HDMI -> TV and HTPC -> S/PDIF -> Denon
No flashing in this setup so far, but that's not the setup I want. So it seems there's some incompatibility between my HTPC and my Denon AVR 1611. Does anyone know if this is just a driver incompatibility or a incompatibility on a hardware basis? If hardware, would another mainboard do the trick?

Unfortunately, you cannot bitstream HD audio with this configuration....

Are you able to set AVR to passthrough video? Another word- when you turn off AVR, you still get video/audio on your HDTV....

I know bitstreaming won't work with this setup, that's why i don't want this setup. I'm just trying to find out what causes the problem. I did not find any option on my AVR to passthrough video (if AVR is turned off I don't get anything on my TV), so I kinda ran into a dead end there. My AVR works just fine with my Notebook and with my PS3, but not with the newly purchased HTPC. So if another mainboard would solve the problem, ok, otherwise I'll have to return the hole HTPC.

That's kind of a problem....AVR is probably try to upconvert/downconvert video from HTPC, which is causing the issues......have you try different Pixel Format in CCC My Digital Flat-Panel?

In my Onkyo AVR, there is an option to set AVR to passthrough video directly to HDTV.....I need AVR for decoding and processing audio only...

RE: [Micro-ATX] A8-3850 (4x2.9Ghz) + HD6550D - deathbringer - 2012-10-15

I'll try changing the pixel format when I'm back home on thursday, hopefully that helps. In my understanding, the AVR should not try to convert anything, since I'm already sending 1080p @60Hz, but you'll never know what those things really do. And since the AVR-1611 is not a high-end AVR, ther're not so many possibilities to change settings.
Any suggestions for a better AVR at the same pricelevel (~300€)?

This "Onkyo HT-RC360" should work w/ HTPC very well. I have Okyo HT-RC270, and I enjoy using it.

More info can be found here- Onkyo HT-RC360

It seems those Onkyo models are not available in germany.

I'm just thinking about getting an extra GeForce GPU, since my Notebook has a GT230M and it's working fine with my AVR. This should be cheaper than changing the HTPC from AMD to Intel. Any suggestions on a silent GeForce GPU that fits in a Silverstone GD06 case with a 300W PSU alongside the A8-3850?

It seem that you have room for a silent GT430- ZOTAC ZT-40606-20L....
