Hey Eskro,

What cpu cooler do you suggest for a A8-3850(TDP 100W) in the silverstone case ML03B? I currently have all the items in your build ready to start building my second htpc, but not sure if the cooler that comes with the cpu will be good enough.

I am still hoping to get an answer on the Silvercase listed in the post. The ML03B supports (4) 80mm fans, but the build doesn't have any selected. If you do the build do you need to buy the fans, or is it cool enough that it's not an issue? If you do need the fans then how does that compare to the GD04B, which comes with (3) 120mm already?

- eskro - 2012-01-11

the stock cooler is good enough, if not they wouldnt ship it to you...
thing is the noise factor...

- eskro - 2012-01-11

dont know why you go crazy about fans..
if you dont like the temps in your ML03b case,
then, get like 2 x 80mm fans to start...

nothing to go crazy about..

Thanks Eskro, plan I seeing how the noise factor comes into play with the stock cooler.

As for the fans, I went ahead and bought 2 of the fans eskro recommends as a starting point to see how temps are in the case.

If you go with ML03B, you can throw a couple of these 80mm case fans in it- SilenX IXP-54-14T 80mm Case Fan. It's the silencest 80mm/1700rpm case fan on the market, and it has maximum fo (32cfm) air flow too. I own several Silentx fans, and it's the silencest fan I encountered.

any 80mm fans listed in my HTPC guide will do the trick

My HTPC - eskay - 2012-01-16

eskro,

I am going with Group #7 and following your threads to set up my HTPC.

Newbie and sorry if I am posting questions which are already there in this forum.

My purpose for HTPC is:
1. Use XBMC to watch movies and tv shows
2. Cut my DISH connection and setup PVR/DVR using on-air channels. I am in process of buying HDD for my Synology DS212.
3. Watch AVCHD format media (from my HD camcorder)

Based on my above requirements, can you let me know if Group #7 setup can handle all my requirements?

Also based on your knowledge can you suggest me what I need to setup my PVR/DVR?

Thanks for your help.
eskay

the PVR part i dont use yet...
but if i'd have to, i'd use an HDHOMERUN device...
but, i'd rather someone else who actually use their HTPC's as PVR to hop in this conversation.

Thanks eskro!

After reading the reviews on newegg, it seems the Asrock mobo has an issue where it defaults to requiring a separate GPU. Has this been the case in your experience with it? I don't have a separate GPU (other than on my regular PC, which probably draws too much power for that seasonic 400w PSU to handle) to change the setting in the bios

Thanks. That is excellent deal!

I'm looking to jump on the Tigerdirect deal, but am a bit confused about which 4Gb DDR3 memory to purchase - if I get 1866 do I need to overclock to get these speeds? And should I get 2 x 2Gb sticks? Just looking for a stable and reliable setup.

Thanks.
