This one looks like an even better deal (same model but 460W and $20 cheaper). Maybe something smells hereHuh

I'm really not familier with nor have I used picoPSU or Seasonic X series. But I'd want the 400W or better power supply, so I'd go for one of the Seasonic x series fanless (some of the citisism on buzzing sound not withstanding). Why not the SS-460FL noted in my last post for $100!!! bluray is going to have more to say on this I hope.

Either one of those PSU is fine. If you are planning to do some upgrades, the higher wattage PSU will give you more options to upgrade!

The higher wattage is cheaper, because it will burn more energy and generate slightly more heat. A lot of buyers don't want more wattage. That is the reason why they dropped the price in order to sell it. If you feel that you want to pay less for more wattage, it'll definitely work fine. But remember, you do not need 460w to operate your HTPC. You may not even need 1/4 of that wattage. The other 3/4w will polluting the atmosphere! Smile

I see your point. I guess I was thinking more from the cost perspective and my own desire for future applications. In an HTPC only for steaming media, I agree even 150W is enough. But I could see potential uses for gaming and potential hardware additions. I think for ATX and some mico ATX builds it's better for me to use either Seasonic. I doubt the differential in power consumption and heat generatoin between 400W and 460W will amount to much.

I ended up getting the Seasonic X-460 fanless PSU - it's currently $82 (after rebate, free shipping) at Newegg, which is about the same price as the 150W picoPSU+brick when you include shipping. I liked the idea of the picoPSU, but the Seasonic gives me way more peace of mind that it's safe enough for 24/7 operation.

I see it's $99.99 after rebate. How'd you get it for $82?

There's a 15% discount code: SEASONIC15

It's come down another $5 since I posted!

- PV_XBMC - 2012-02-02

Thanks all for help. I will take Seasonic X (fanless).

Hope I'm looking at the same PS. I see the $5 drop, but 15% off puts it at $95, but I'm quibbling. Good price. I think the report of whining noise was just a one off and supply is as good as any in the series x line.

You get 15% off plus $15 rebate.

[CPU+iGPU] AMD A8-3850 4x2.9GHz HD6550D FM1 100W ($135 + $0)
[MOBO] ASRock A75M FM1 CIR USB3.0 SATAIII UEFI μATX ($75 + $0)
[CASE] SILVERSTONE ML03B μATX ($60 + $0)
[PSU] SeaSonic SS-400ET 80+ Bronze 400W ATX12V ($43 + $9)
TOTAL: ($322)

** A8-3850 CPU supports up to DDR3-1866MHz memory sticks **

My biggest 2 questions before I bite the bullet on this ML03B case are:

1) With an 80mm intake vent below where the power supply mounts, and no vent above, it would seem that I am limited to PS noisier than I'd like ( compared to PS with 120mm fan or fanless). So what's the best option for as little noise as possibe?

2) With a vertically narrower case, what is the best choice to cool processor (say the AMD A6 at 65W or the A8 at 100W) that will fit in the case?

What case did you put this in? If I use the SILVERSTONE ML03B, I will have to cut a hole in the case above this power supply.
