I've let the same video play again for an hour this time, on a restarted system. Playback quality and fluidity is not bad, but far from perfect. As mentioned before, it is most apparent during slow panning shots in which an object is supposed to move in a fluid motion. The best way I can describe the problem is that there appear to be a very fast stutter going on, as if the movie plays at a lower framerate. Looking at the debug playback screen however shows this is not the case. The framerate stays between 23.7 and 24.3 for this normally 23.98 fps movie at all times.

@alexandervdm: the problem is your TV:

20:10:02 T:140667103926016 NOTICE: fps: 23.976024, pwidth: 1280, pheight: 528, dwidth: 1280, dheight: 528
20:10:02 T:140667103926016 DEBUG: OutputPicture - change configuration. 1280x528. framerate: 23.98. format: YV12
20:10:02 T:140667103926016 NOTICE: Display resolution DESKTOP : 800x600 @ 60.32 - Full Screen (16)

the logs says, there is neither a 23,976p nor a 24p mode, so you are running on 60hz. The result is the telecine judder you are seeing.

RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD Radeon/Fusion and Nvidia GPUs - FernetMenta - 2012-11-15

very likely but I wanted to make sure there are no other problems. telecine judder is a common problem and I was just wondering why this is reported here. btw, there is no mechanism in XBMC which guarantees a 3:2 cadence, this can vary, i.e. 3:2:2:3:2:3:.... This might make the effect worse.

Did you do the obvious:

In xbmc: System -> Settings -> System -> Video Hardware: Vertical Blank Sync always enabled?
and additionally from the commandline:
Code:
sudo aticonfig --vs=on

Btw. check on the playback settings while playing a movie, that Deinterlacing is set to "Auto" and not to "On".

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually hadn't done
Code:
sudo aticonfig --vs=on
yet. But I saw no change.

I just tried to put "video scaling method" from "auto" to "nearest neighbor" and it is a _lot_ less noticeable on this particular video im watching. If I'm picky I could still see some lines, but I'm not picky. I hope this fixes it also for the other videos I was experiencing this with.

any comment on this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138365&Tpk=BIOSTAR%20A68I-350 as a Frodo platform? (since it's AMD I'll ask here).. I'm thinking of getting three and building some boxes for Christmas presents Smile

Really need some help here...

Is resume from standy working at all...When I resume the pc starts but the screen remains black and I have no ethernet. I'm on 12.04 (also tried 12.10) and tried most of the catalyst drivers from (12.6, 12.09, 12.10, 12.11b).

I'm just not sure whether this is related to the video driver or something else (networkHuh). /var/log/pm-suspend has this:

Quote:Running hook /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/55NetworkManager suspend suspend:
Having NetworkManager put all interaces to sleep...Failed.

I have the following network card:
Quote:*-network

Short note about Catalyst 12.11b8 (or the whole 12.11 series).

AMD introduced a bug in their GL code. The result of this is, that there is constant drop (approx 1 frame / second). This is already reported and cared by AMD - so just don't use the 12.11 beta series until it is fixed.

Btw. did somebody with non quantal (xorg 1.13) already tried the 12.10 version of fglrx?

The best, reliable choice and the most tested still is the Ubuntu 12.9 package, that is is also shipped by OpenELEC.

With the new Frodo beta 1 out, does it include all of y'alls work or should we stick to using builds from your repo since I currently run the builds in xbmc-xvba?

RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD Radeon/Fusion and Nvidia GPUs - fritsch - 2012-11-17

@VanillaXtract:
None of this features have been included. Wsnipex already published a new package that is beta + all the stuff you already find amazing :-)

RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD Radeon/Fusion and Nvidia GPUs - un1versal - 2012-11-17

@ VanillaXtract

I dont think most of the VDpau stuff is going in frodo, idk cant be really sure but thers PRs that arent moving and its now feature freeze, even though technically improvements are not features they may introduce settings and thats a no no for translators etc.

Hi, I'm struggling with this issue on a Zotac ND02 zbox with resume from suspend on a clean 12.04 LTS using the most recent beta 1.

I am able to suspend successfully and am greeted by XBMC but the minute I press a button on my harmony remote (programmed mce ir signals & using a hp mceusb receiver) the screen goes black and I lose the picture, then goes back into sleep. The second time however, it does not exhibit this behavior.

When the screen goes black I can still hear the GUI sounds when I navigate but the screen remains black before it goes back to sleep, The box was working fine with Dharma.

I tried various things, I noticed some threads about 12.04 having lightdm problems coming out of sleep. Don't know if its driver related or not?

Using: nvidia-current 304.64-0ubuntu1~precise~xup1 from ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates repo
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Frodo Beta 1

Xorg.0.log: here

pm-suspend.log: here

xbmc.log: here

I see this is the log
Quote:12:35:42 T:3005107008 INFO: CAESinkALSA::HandleError(snd_pcm_wait) - Resuming after suspend
12:35:42 T:3005107008 INFO: CAESinkALSA - ALSA: pcm_hw.c:709Sadsnd_pcm_hw_resume) SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_RESUME failed (-38): Function not implemented
12:35:42 T:3007547200 NOTICE: OnWake: Run
Not sure if this is related but I do hear sound over hdmi, so I doubt it's audio reltaed.

Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

Xbmc gets a shutdown command from your remote. Its probably a wrong keymapping.

RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD Radeon/Fusion and Nvidia GPUs - joelones - 2012-11-18

Thanks for the reply wsnipex, that could be just me trying to wake up the display after the initial (KEY_UP) press that kills the display.

I've installed both 12.04/10 on other systems and have accepted the default keymaps and had no trouble with wrong keymapping.

@wsnipex @fritsch

Added this thread to the forums FAQ as the discussion thread for XVBA etc etc see http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=XBMC_for_Linux_specific_FAQ#Begin_but_install_the_video_drivers_the_Ubuntu_Way

Now I need to find Nvidia and Intel threads that are somewhat alive. Personally I would sticky this thread for ease of finding in Forums by new users.
