RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - RedCat - 2013-02-25

Hello

I have one problem: On my HTPC (i3 cpu, 2 gb ram, ati 6450 vga) run mini ubuntu + 12.10 catalyst + xbmc xvba from wsnipex repo. If I watch films, xbmc freeze sometimes. The computer dont, only the gui. I can login with ssh, and restart computer. But screen and sound freeze. I try reinstall it, but nothing changes... I ran some testprogram, and hardware are good.
What can I doing? Please help me Smile Thx

Posting xbmc.log would be useful.

Here is the explanation how to get a debug log and what to do with it.

What I see is no good at all. Which ppa are you using?
Are you streaming via WLAN?

The crash on flush could be related to a problem, that got fixed in latest -testing package which is building right now - but your "drops and read error" that looks like really slow network.

wsnipex,

I have seen several threads with posts advising people with integrated Nvidia cards to use this build of XBMC.
However, by reading the OP of this thread I have no clue what the advantages are if I would do so.

Could you outline the advantages this XVBA branch has for people using VDPAU instead of XVBA ?

/etc/apt/sources.list.d/xbmc.list:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/wsnipex/xbmc-xvba/ubuntu precise main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/wsnipex/xbmc-xvba/ubuntu precise main

No, I dont streaming. In my htpc havent wireless lan card, only one wired gigabit lan. (Gigabyte h67n-usb3 motherboard, i3 3220 cpu, 2 gb ram, ati 6450 vga)

Slow network? This freeze is random. Yesterday I can watch two 20 GB 1080p mkv file from network, and nothing freeze. But sometimes I can watch 3-4 episode CSI or "how I met your mother" and dont freeze, sometimes 5-6 mins from begining freeze...

@RedCat
I just read your log.
Could you upgrade to the latest version from xbmc-xvba-testing? I fixed some audio "flush segfault" there - which I see in your last line, hehe. Btw. you can also join #xbmc-xvba so it goes faster.

@Kibje: Though I am not wsnipex, but he is currently busy with xbmcbuntu ppa.
- This xbmc version has a complete new player buffering. This buffering is needed to get full throughput for your hwdecoder.
- VDPAU was also completely rewritten. It uses a statemachine object pattern. Aka the machine knows in which state it is, messages between the states. This is much less error prone than normal "let's see how the threads are running" coding style.
- SDL was dumped. So here you have correct xrandr support. Two monitors, switching monitors, rotating monitors, no problem.
- XVBA and VDPAU use the same pattern in there and both are making use of the same implementation
- Sync playback to display changes are also there for perfect playback.

All those goodies are on a (slow) way into mainline, as fernetmenta is a member of the xbmc team and constantly working on improving mainline.

Yes, I upgraded xbmc from xbmc-xvba-testing source. I testing it.

What is #xbmc-xvba? Irc? Where can I join?

Thx for ur help Smile I will test this version now and tomorrow... Need u more logs?

RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - fritsch - 2013-02-26

#xbmc-xvba is a channel on the irc network of freenode.

No don't need new logfiles.

Should change of /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf be working for ubuntu 12.04 64x, as mentioned in step four in first post?

RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - wsnipex - 2013-02-27

yes

Strange...I tried and got the message on screen that "low resolution graphic" or something like this appeared and thereafter was not able to make anything to get into XBMC. Only when I reverted things to default was able to start to unity desktop.
I have NVIDIA video card.
