RE: How to Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - fritsch - 2013-06-24

13.6 (beta) is the first driver sind 8 months, that works correctly with XVBA and xbmc. It can very well be, that it supports your A10 much better than before and also that it will consume less power. The only bug I found for now is, that "disabling Vertical Blank Sync Always enabled" will result in choppy menus - but as there is no reason to disable it, it is fine.

Concerning your Cabinet: Get yourself a 800 U/min 120mm fan. This is unhearable and will solve all your problems.

Hi,
thanks for the very quick and polite answer.
I'll give it a try, and let the forum know what happens.
About the cabinet, it's designed for supporting CPU with up to 75W TDP, and mine has 65W, so as soon as I can avoid that
it's always working too much, I think I'm in the safe area.
Unfortunately the old catalyst cannot read properly the CPU sensors, but maybe the newer catalyst can.

Best regards,
Claudio

You mean "case" for your cabinet? Is it a streacom F7C or something?

Edit: CPU is done via lm-sensors, you might need to tell the module to read the correct address.
Edit2: http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.drivers.sensors/31281 <- perhaps upgrading the kernel to something newer will fix it, howto for 3.9 (you must use fglrx 13.6, the old one will not compile), you find here:
64 bit:
Code:
mkdir ~/3.9.x
cd ~/3.9.x
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.9.7-saucy/linux-headers-3.9.7-030907-generic_3.9.7-030907.201306201628_amd64.deb http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.9.7-saucy/linux-headers-3.9.7-030907_3.9.7-030907.201306201628_all.deb http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.9.7-saucy/linux-image-3.9.7-030907-generic_3.9.7-030907.201306201628_amd64.deb http://mirrors.us.kernel.org/ubuntu//pool/main/l/linux-firmware/linux-firmware_1.106_all.deb
sudo dpkg -i *deb
sudo reboot
32 bit:
Code:
mkdir ~/3.9.x
cd ~/3.9.x
wget  http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.9.7-saucy/linux-headers-3.9.7-030907-generic_3.9.7-030907.201306201628_i386.deb http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.9.7-saucy/linux-headers-3.9.7-030907_3.9.7-030907.201306201628_all.deb http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.9.7-saucy/linux-image-3.9.7-030907-generic_3.9.7-030907.201306201628_i386.deb http://mirrors.us.kernel.org/ubuntu//pool/main/l/linux-firmware/linux-firmware_1.106_all.deb
sudo dpkg -i *deb
sudo reboot

Edit25: It is obviously clear, that this new kernel _is_not_ required for XVBA in general.

Better than streacom, I've got an HD-PLEX H5, and already managed to fix some issues with IR receiver (see my post http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=104541&pid=1438557#pid1438557)

Now I'm trying to connect to my HTPC via ssh, but it's always hard to remember how I did the last time...

So far so good,
I've installed the whole by following your help
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=116996&pid=1431914#pid1431914
then at reboot I got a flickering screen that has disappeared when going out and in from xbmc.
Still no power management from aticccle but seems to be promising.

Thanks again,
Claudio

You mean it's windows? Maybe Sony's ps4 could have more impact since it's freeBSD?

Bingo!
The new catalyst uses my A10 much better, and the temperature you can feel on your hand after two hours playing GOG Still Life in Wine is much lower than before.
XBMC works great, no problems as far as I can see.

RE: How to Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - kikixx - 2013-06-25

I have to say, with the settings recommended in the OP and the latest 13.6 beta drivers - xbmc is butterly smoothe. Loving it - very good work.

Only have one issue now, it seems the new monitor selection doesn't seem to be working, switching between the two available outputs always keeps xbmc on the same monitor no matter what.
I used to use a lovely wmctrl script which did the job perfectly, disabled screensavers and power saving modes and moved the window, set it to fullscreen but now that doesn't seem to effect the XBMC window at all (whilst other windows still work as expected)

Anyone got a workaround for that?

you don't run xvba-testing, do you?

No, I run the stable version.

RE: How to Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - FernetMenta - 2013-06-26

well, in this case stable == buggy version Smile

What should I use, and how?

xvba-testing, how-to on first page

RE: How to Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - Claudio.Sjo - 2013-06-26

I'm using
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:wsnipex/xbmc-xvba-frodo
what is wrong with that?
what I get if I move to
ppa:wsnipex/xbmc-xvba
??

RE: How to Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - FernetMenta - 2013-06-26

maximum confusion Smile
my original question was targeted to kikixx because he had problems with multiple monitors.
