my original question was targeted to kikixx because he had problems with multiple monitors.

I did try both of them just in case - but the current one that's installed:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:wsnipex/xbmc-xvba
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xbmc xbmc-bin

Which I think from my understanding is the one I should be using?
I don't think my set up is particularly unusual, HDTV is an output on my AV receiver, PC gfx HDMI out into the AV receiver and PC gfx DVI out to monitor.
It appears in the list as "CRT2" (my DVI) and "DFP2" (my HDTV).

As I said, it's so butterly smooth with this version I really don't mind - just wondered if I was doing something inherently stupid. I can still start it in windowed mode (or switch to windowed mode, physically drag it over to HDTV and then switch to fullscreen which does the job the script used to do.

edit: re-read the first post and I must have missed the testing build - I've installed that now instead after removing the other repo, I'm now on http://ppa.launchpad.net/wsnipex/xbmc-xvba-testing/ubuntu raring
Although, still have the same behaviour it seems except on the testing branch I've got no hdmi audio now!

Cheers,

May you fix the first page of the post?

------------------
on AMD GPUs:
- fglrx binary driver(amd catalyst) >= 11.11 (>=fglrx 2:8.911) - 12.10 recommended on precise - installed as debs (see step 2 below) on AMD (integrated) GPUs
Every driver after 12.10 (xorg 1.12 only) and 12.9Quantal(xorg 1.13 shipped with Ubuntu 12.10) is broken. It causes 100% CPU usage with enable vsync.
There is currently no driver that can be installed for Ubuntu 13.04 - don't use this version.
-------------------

this is not valid any longer as catalyst 13.6 works quite well with ubuntu 12.10 as far as I can see on my system.

Thanks for pointing out. During the years we assumed that most users don't read the pages anyway :-)

wsnipex maybe can u make new iso with Ubuntu 13.04 (or 12.10) + xbmc 12.2 frodo + xvba + catalyst 13.6? I think some people like it. Thx Smile

i dont think so becaus with the tutorial on the first page you can install without any special iso with xbmc included.

After now testing 13.6b for a longer time, here and in OE - two problems seem to be left (despite missing features of course)

a) If Vertical Blank Sync is completely disabled, the UI is slow as hell
b) More severe: Files with CABAC=NO have a whole lot of artifacts. I have reported both to AMD

Same as last year August: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=116996&pid=1176321#pid1176321 :-) Isn't it nice?

thats why I switched from AMD to Intel Hardware Smile

UVD and dynamic power management in the open source radeon driver, hopefully we can jump off the fglrx ship one day.

RE: How to Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - fritsch - 2013-06-30

I am quite confident for kernel 3.11 + all the changes that went in with the last PR. Let's see what we will get. The PM changes will enable the radeon to run at "higher clocks" and therefore it will highly affect UVD performance.

RE: How to Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - fritsch - 2013-06-30

Offtopic:

I invested some time and gave the new radeon dpm and UVD work a try.
The people over at #radeon are really nice.

720p50 is working fine, this is how ZDF and ARD transmit their HD TV here in Germany
1080i50 gets max 33 fps with BOB deinterlacing - so quite choppy

max throuput on my AD10 in 1080p is 37 progressive frames

576i with bob is working fine. First time ever I have seen mpeg-2 on this radeon card.

Sound is the same as with the proprietary driver. Something is missing here to get more channels / rates.

Currently, you need a little patch to get DPM and UVD working at the same time: http://sprunge.us/CVRM

I found some devs in #radeon that were highly interested in the GL InterOp that is missing within mesa world and started to use fernetmenta ppa to bring in this feature and to verify if it is working :-)

RE: How to Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - deadite66 - 2013-06-30

i get a black screen when i enabled dpm on my e350 but working fine on my desktop HD6970.

RE: How to Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - fritsch - 2013-06-30

Yes - you need to recompile your kernel with the patch I posted :-)

Edit: If you are on ubuntu visit me in #xbmc-xvba and I can give you the deb packages to get it working.

thanks but i will wait, doesn't seem likes it's worth moving from fglrx yet anyway.
