abudabi Wrote:Ah yes.. you were too quick for me. I forced the new version in synaptic and it's now installed... but I still have no sound Sad At least now I have this big red muted speaker at the top of the screen.

Looks like something else has buggered up my sound. Confused

Thanks for the help boys. This new version seems nice and smooth!

Please pastebin aplay -L or if you are from a remote shell: sudo aplay -L

please join irc as the "no audio" problems were already handled in this thread :-)

back again!

i've a problem with lightdm. i edited the files like in the first post, but lightdm still loads the normal xubuntu-session! everything is typed in correctly, i proofed it many times! it does not use the XBMC.desktop file!

the log file of lightdm shows no errors, and shows, that lightdm uses the xubuntu session, though it is written xbmc as user-sessions in lightdm.conf!

i did a dirty trick and copied the lines from the XBMC.desktop into the xubuntu.desktop and it works!!!
but i want to know why lightdm does not load the session i write in the lightdm.conf file!

does anyone have the same problem or know what i did wrong?

Hmm.... i dont think this is a problem specific to your build so dont want to take up your time with this matter... especially considering I had audio issues before I switched ppas. I did:

Code:
lspci -nnk

and got back

Code:
01:00.1 Audio device [0403]: ATI Technologies Inc Manhattan HDMI Audio [Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series] [1002:aa68]
Subsystem: PC Partner Limited Device [174b:aa68]
Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel
        Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel

Is it supposed to use an intel driver for ati hdmi soundHuh Anyway... will start a new thread. Thanks fritsch

Had the same problem, there is a problem with the rights. I solved it by: log out, choose xbmc session, login -> done :-)

please pastebin what I requested and your soundproblem is solved within some minutes.

1.) sudo apt-get install pastebinit
2.) sudo aplay -L | pastebinit

Post the resulting URL or join irc.

This new build introduce quite some stuttering in 720/1080p 24p play versus yesterday's one

please post a debug log and explain the problem in more detail. Is it only at the beginning or all the time, does pause/play or toggling window/fullscreen mode fix it? Does it also stutter on mpeg2/4?

- m.bluemle - 2012-01-19

@fritsch: i had big problems with this! after i did the "dirty trick" and was able to autologin to a xbmc session, i was not able to login to a normal xubuntu session! i had a login-loop! every time, it jumped back to the login screen. i´ve taken a look to the lightdm logs and the x-0.log shows me a problem with the fglrx driver. so xubuntu has a problem to start the xserver in this session and throws me back to the login!

a google search shows me, that i´m not the only one with this problem and it seems to be a driver problem. curiosly i didn´t have any problems to login to the xbmc session!

i did a new install, after a few hours of trying and testing!
now i´m a little bit afraid to try again to get an autologin to xbmc...

- grad - 2012-01-19

@m.bluemle: FWIW, I usually place the xbmc.desktop file in to ~/.config/autostart, enable autologin and the session of choice and let xbmc be executed just as any other autostart tool. This is the least fancy setup IMHO and gives you a real desktop as well in case you need one.

here is the mediainfo info about the stuttering .mkv, other files seems to play ok.

Hiya folks. After fritsch helped me out the other day.. I've had my 1st anomoly.

I stopped a movie (normal DVDrip) and left it overnight. Came in now and tried to resume the movie but there was stuttering of video and echoing of the sound. Even if I tried to play the same move from the start, it would do the same. A reboot obviously fixed it. If it happens again I'll post logs etc... just wanted to put it out there.

Thanks chaps!

- wsnipex - 2012-01-19

might be the resume problem. Check /var/log/kern.log for fglrx related errors.
If this happens regularly you can try the workaround posted under the howto.

- abudabi - 2012-01-19

Had a look at that log file wsnipex. No mention of anything going wrong in that file at the time of the stutters (when I woke it up). It shows the reboot and then these fglrx bits when I started the movie (I'm guessing):

Update on high CPU - flitter2009 - 2012-01-20

Hi guys!

I've done more testing on the high CPU issue I noted earlier in the thread. Lola or remote file (NFS) seems to make no difference and also the CPU doesn't reduce whe files are run fr long periods (local or remote).

There is randomness in that occasionally e CPU usage will drop from 150% to 50% for no apparent reason sometimes on a keystroke and sometimes on its own.

I wish I could nail this reliably :-( and will keep trying.

Thanks again for your work!

- fritsch - 2012-01-20

You could try an older version of fglrx. Try 11.11 or even go back to 11.8. For 11.8 you have to force our package to install correctly as it depends on >= 11.11
