Hiya folks. After fritsch helped me out the other day.. I've had my 1st anomoly.

I stopped a movie (normal DVDrip) and left it overnight. Came in now and tried to resume the movie but there was stuttering of video and echoing of the sound. Even if I tried to play the same move from the start, it would do the same. A reboot obviously fixed it. If it happens again I'll post logs etc... just wanted to put it out there.

Thanks chaps!

might be the resume problem. Check /var/log/kern.log for fglrx related errors.
If this happens regularly you can try the workaround posted under the howto.

Had a look at that log file wsnipex. No mention of anything going wrong in that file at the time of the stutters (when I woke it up). It shows the reboot and then these fglrx bits when I started the movie (I'm guessing):

Update on high CPU - flitter2009 - 2012-01-20 00:23

Hi guys!

I've done more testing on the high CPU issue I noted earlier in the thread. Lola or remote file (NFS) seems to make no difference and also the CPU doesn't reduce whe files are run fr long periods (local or remote).

There is randomness in that occasionally e CPU usage will drop from 150% to 50% for no apparent reason sometimes on a keystroke and sometimes on its own.

I wish I could nail this reliably :-( and will keep trying.

Thanks again for your work!

You could try an older version of fglrx. Try 11.11 or even go back to 11.8. For 11.8 you have to force our package to install correctly as it depends on >= 11.11

Important Note for ATI HD 5xxx series users: Stick to fglrx 11.11, as 11.12 is reported to not work on this series

well not sure about this. The issues we know of have been verified on hd 5500 and 5670 and are much worse then an occasional hickup/crash. With those cards video doesn't seem to play correctly at all.

It might be possible that 5450 is another gpu architecture(older) and is therefore not affected by this.

You could nonetheless try fglrx 11.11 and see if it solves the problem.

Thanks wsnipex

Just to let you know I've not experienced the same stutter issue tonight. Nothing has changed on my system so maybe it was just a once-off.

I am trying to use the analog connection (not-HDMI). Here is an output from aplay -L
