Great Thread, any update on new remotes or ideal remotes (without needing configuring) for OpenELEC

I which the Apple Remote will work, so simple and gorgeous too

RE: Remote Controllers for XBMC - sfmike - 2013-12-06

I have mainly relied on two remote types:

1. The collection of Microsoft MCE remotes that came with every video capture device
2. The Gyration RF motion sensing media centre remote and keyboard combo

I've tried using the iPad XBMC controller apps, but I really don't want to drag out my phone every time I want to listen or watch something. The Gryation RF remote / keyboard combo has been far and away my favorite. The ability to both navigate through menus using the media center buttons, but also to having a motion sensing mouse like a Wii is the best, most convenient combination I have found and also has high WAF. It works great for operating XBMC and WMC, but also easily lets you navigate Windows for web surfing, installing software, troubleshooting, etc. Main limitation is they don't work that well as universal remotes, but since I have only an HTPC, Roku and soundbar, it has been fine for me. Plus it's RF!

Unfortunately they are no longer made, and finding them is difficult. One of the button sensors is out on mine, and I've been trying to find one for a reasonable sum. There is a Dell version which I tried, but you can't get their dongle anymore and it doesn't work with the Gyration receiver.

Edit: found an old post which describes how to get the Dell / Gyration remote working via a Dell wireless IO adapter (available for $35 on eBay) and a custom USB cable:

http://www.avsforum.com/t/893705/dell-m2010-remote

Going to give it a shot!

Edit: found another site with a clear, visual explanation of how to hook up the dell receiver to your computer and it worked great. Total cost was ~$70, and I'm tempted to order a spare remote or two...

Hi everyone,

I would like to use XBMC with my Pioneer Receiver's Remote..
Pioneer Remote has ability to learn codes from other remotes.

I am planning to buy this remote
http://dx.com/p/multimedia-ir-remote-controller-with-usb-receiver-for-pc-1-cr2025-26368

Program everything related to XBMC with the remote I bought using EventGhost application (Program the buttons left-right-up-down-play-stop.....)

After programming the remote, every command related to XBMC has a button in the remote.

Then program the Pioneer Remote using the remote bought from DX.

Example:
The first button on the bought remote sends "XYZABC1" signal to receiver connected to USB
EventGhost programs that the "XYZABC1" signal from USB receiver will "Play" the media in XBMC
Program Pioneer Remote's play button to "XYZABC1" signal.

Press the Pioneer Remote's play button
USB Receiver gets signal
Transfers that signal to EventGhost prorgam
EventGhost Program transfers that signal to Play button to XBMC

Will it work perfectly?

Hi folks.

Would anyone know if it is possible to use a PS3 move navigation controller:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-PlayStation-Move-Navigation-Controller/dp/B003NSBMHQ/ref=pd_sim_vg_h__4

And how to go about setting it up, same as a PS3 Dual Shock controller?

Personally i think this could be a very good remote if possible. Just a shame it's not IR or Flirc would have sufficed.

RE: Remote Controllers for XBMC - psypher - 2014-01-10

Anyone have a recommendation for a remote with an IR Receiver that works under Windows 8 64 Bit? I bought some Sanoxy remote, but Windows is having issues installing the eHome driver. Don't care about the remote, I use a Harmony One with my HTPC.

Any RC6 MCE remote fits your request.

Just received this VMX3 remote:

I see it is available on DX too.

I will make a fast review.

I is better than I expected. It has a RF keyboard, mouse and remote (positive and very important)! Airmouse can be turned off pressing a button, but some other buttons active this automaticaly (negative). The remote can be turned in IR by pressing "TV" button (positive), so you can have a remote which you can choose if it is IR or RF. Buttons worked fastly in RF when connected to my rasp-pi running openelec. It has almost all buttons I expected in a remote, except the "stop" button (negative), I don't know why. I choose to change remote to IR and use learning function to make it work in XBMC, bcs of two things: it's boring when you press a button and airmouse is activated... it will not be fine for my wife. :-) Second point: the stop button. :-) I've learned stop on the IR remote as beeing another button. When I need to use airmouse or keyboard I change to RF function by pressing "TV" button again. Ok, maybe I prefer to disconnect the dongle and connect it again only if I need to use keyboard and mouse, which is not common.

In general, I think this remote is very nice.

Stop = OK then click on "stop" icon.

Or remap, say, the red button to "x".

Also, which button(s) activate airmouse?

RE: Remote Controllers for XBMC - zemmac - 2014-02-22

I know. What I mean is that Ok + stop icon is not so cool...

I've mapped to another button.

I wish they would make this remote with IR / RF

I can't use IR and feel bluetooth is better than RF, since you can use the same bluetooth receiver for multiple devices, including keyboards and mice. As for me, I think I've found the perfect remote for me:

With a quick bit of help from this blog post, I got it working great. I changed the buttons to do just what I want in keyboard.xml (all other buttons work as expected out of the box)
Code:
<keymap>
  <global>
    <keyboard>
      <backspace>Mute</backspace>
      <escape>Back</escape>
      <equals>ContextMenu</equals>
    </keyboard>
  </global>
  <FullscreenVideo>
    <keyboard>
      <backspace>runscript(script.xbmc.subtitles)</backspace>
      <escape>Stop</escape>
      <equals>NextSubtitle</equals>
    </keyboard>
  </FullscreenVideo>
</keymap>
and besides that, change the BigStep to 5 minutes instead of 10. It survives reboots... I've got all the buttons I use (just a few more than on a Apple Remote or those Satechis) and best of all, you can find them on ebay and the like for $20. I will get a few in stock if they do flake out.

I understand this might not work for everyone, but for me, I've finally found the perfect remote for me (and my wife is very happy too with it!)

RE: Remote Controllers for XBMC - Paxonator - 2014-04-29

I'm amazed that no one has made a remote that works great for most applications. I'm currently looking for a remote for my HTPC's. Can anyone help with these options I've picked out?

I have a Revo and custom htpc both running win7 64bit with Frodo 12.3. I would like a touchpad or airmouse for windows navigation. I would like a keyboard on the remote. Needs to have WAF. Well I just want it to work when it needs to. We've been using yatse and like that, we'll continue to use yatse to initially turn on the pc. So which out of these will be the easiest to work?

Rii Touch (n7, 330 etc.)
Mele F10
RII RT-MWK13
Ipazzi variant.

I have the Dinovo Edge oh the main htpc but find it big and not guest/wife friendly. I was hoping one of these might work better.

Wife friendly = remote with buttons, no touchpad, no air mouse... , no touch screen Smile
Talking from my experience ...
Bought a harmony 300 for that reason...

RE: Remote Controllers for XBMC - Paxonator - 2014-04-29

I have the Harmony 700 and she did not like that at all. It never seemed to work for her so I abandoned it.

RE: Remote Controllers for XBMC - solamnic - 2014-04-29

Harmony 700 has screen...

screen is not wife friendly.. Wink
