ViperJPB Wrote:Do the ION machines have enough oomph for full bit-rate 1080i cable broadcasts? Cuz I would love to go that route. Can you point me in the right direction system wise. Love to build one but if buying a pre-done setup is easier hey.

Don't tell anyone becuase they are going to be sold out and I still want to buya couple more, but a Shuttle XS35GT with Nvidia ION is passively cooled (meaning totally silent) and runs OpenElec smother than a i7 desktop. 1080i? That's nothing. You can throw 1080p at the highest bitrates: no sync issues, no hiccups. You can find a really cheap barebones and you only need to add 1Gb of RAM and a cheapo USB flash drive.

For remote, OpenElec runs great with any MCE-Certified remote, no set up needed, but you can certainly use an iPhone/iPad with any of the many XBMC remote apps in the App Store.

And RemoteCeton works great with it, either direct streaming or transcoded video. If you take the XBMCBuntu road, you also get a full-featured Chrome browser on your TV, but OpenElec is just so perfect...

mcheng, has the xbmc section been updated for hdhomerun or is it just for the ceton right now?

It doesn't work for you? Don't use tuner 4 for now.

Otherwise check back tomorrow. Smile

I cant help you with that since I dont have one... maybe uspino will answer when he comes back. But I would assume theres a iPhone/iPad hack since its just XBMC on ubuntu, right? I'm sure ubuntu has something...

Todo for tonight:
- Fill in XBMC info bar
- Channel logo api
- Deinterlace

Do you guys like this skin?

Thanks Mcheng. Couple more questions for ya. This setup of yours will utilize all of the Ceton USB setting right? Even setting up scheduled recordings etc? I want to ditch the cable box. But my wife also needs to be able to use it. Wink

Whoa...totally missed your post. Thanks man! I will look into all of that. So Ceton will run in the XBMCubuntu setup? Sorry first HTPC so I will have to look up OpenElec. I only asked 1080i since that is the maximum broadcast TV has at the moment. Obviously not talking about Blu Ray stuff at 1080P etc....Thanks again for the info!

@gman3042: I'll send you something to test tomorrow Tongue

Didn't get a chance to do anything

Will spend half an hour now to work on these two:
- Fill in XBMC info bar with description - done
- Deinterlace - doesnt seem to be working.... gonna try again tomorrow

Does anyone use this with Apple TV 2? if so, what resolution/quality do you use without lagging (on HD Channels)? The highest I can get is 576 Medium Quality and even then it's a couple milliseconds off.

Going to take the plunge soon with an HTPC and Ceton USB. I am on Comcast Cable in Callifornia. Does XBMC and this wonderful plugin have any issues playing any content back? Will I be able to watch all my channels or will DRM block some? Thanks.

I have FIOS, no copy protection, so I can't tell for sure, but I think you won't be able to see copy-protected channels... Can somebody confirm this?
