I can't figure this out for the life of me, any suggestions?

I do that, but when I try to add the favorite I get the NO sign. Like the no smoking sign.

Are you using Eden Beta 1? If not, you are probably missing the favourites script...

Unzip the archive into your add-on folder, or install the .zip through the XBMC add-on browser.
I urge you to use Eden and XeeBo from Hitcher's repo. You will have the best compatibility, and what your trying to do will be much easier.

You either haven't added anything to your favourites or you didn't install via ZIP and you might not have the Favourites script installed.
