Feature Request: Adaptive Showcase View - lloydsmart - 2012-03-17

Hello.

First of all, awesome skin! By far the best one available now. I'm using it on Eden RC2 and it just blows me away.

Anyway, my request is this: I'm not sure if this is even possible, but:

I use showcase view in 4-thumbs mode for my movies. It works really well but for some less well known movies I'm running into trouble finding five unique fanarts for each one, so I inevitably end up with some "empty" screenshot boxes with just the "xbmc" logo in them.

What I'd like, ideally, is for the showcase view's layout to be adaptive, so that if, for example, it only detects two images in the extrathumbs folder, it uses the two-thumbnail "extrathumbs" mode. If there are none, it uses fanart mode (the one that just displays the same fanart as the big background image), and if there are four or more, it uses four-thumbs mode.

Is this possible? I think it would look much cooler.

This can be possible, but the extra needed code and options would slow things down too much. Showcase is already pretty demanding. Would be a nice project for a personal mod I think.

Hmm, I guess I could have a look at the code. But I've never modded a skin before. Any hints on where to start?
