You sound like that Dave guys from Linux Tech Show podcast. He's a Honda Civic fan.

So it's a Pivos XIOS DS Media Play -> http://www.pivosgroup.com/my-website#!vstc3=products/vstc0=xios

Which was launched last Weds -> http://www.pivosgroup.com/052112#!__052112

And the mrp ~ $114.99 which will pitch it around the atv type of market then.

Very interesting although I wonder how it will compete with the wave of slightly cheaper mele/All winner based boxes that have come out. Although reading your posts Davilla it sounds like you have had some support from the manufacturer.

Also I wonder what xbmc is running on top of on this box ;-)

Well done though for whatever effort you guys are putting into this as I'm sure all will be revealed soon.

Bring on the sub $100 xbmc era

Rob

wow this is really exciting! thanks so much for your hard work!!!

i have a box with the same hardware ... need to wire up the uart leads and get that serial console spun up. would love to see some more details on how you got this done as i'm pretty rusty with this stuff!

Do you need to order "the debug board" (or make something else up yourself) to install Linux\XBMC on the Mele A1000?

How does this hardware compare the ATV2 or ATV3?

I have just donated for the purchase of further ARM equipment. It's the least we can do, so the all of devs get the new ARM boxes. The number of extra boxes coming on stream, it's too expensive for the devs to be buying them all. It's seem like there is a new box each month Smile

All u need is a sd card with proper partition and software. It will be helpful if u can connect to the on board serial console. Hardware wise is more like atv3 for its 512MB memory and 1080p playback capability. The CPU and gpu on atv3 may be a bit powerful than a10. Video playback on A1000 should be much much better as it virtually plays every video files you throw at it.

Just to expand on that the All Winner A10 has hardware decoders for MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, MJPEG, VC-1, H.264 up to Blu-ray bitrates whereas the AppleTV only has a hardware decoder for H.264 so as s7mx1 says the Allwinner should handle almost anything you throw at it without needing to fall back to the CPU.

The Amlogic 8726 M1 chipsets also mentioned are pretty similar to Allwinner A10 for video support, the newer 8726 M3/MX variants have support for H.264 MVC (3D Blu-ray) & WebM video too, however they are not as open to end users as All Winner is unless a friendly manufacturer is helping like Pivos is hinting at.

Interesting point about A10 being more open but it makes me wonder about the benefits of this openness when the manufacturer of the A10 doesn't help with driver support and then we see the pivos device getting help their device even though the a logic chip is considered less open.

I know 800MHz Cortex A9 is used in Pivos stuff, but who made it? Which brand?

RE: Allwinner A10 : Is XBMC ported to MALI-400MP ? - Ribuck - 2012-06-02 23:59

I'm seeing a trend here, first fxi get help with the cotton candy and now pivious. What do they both have in common, they are both cortex A9's with Mali gpu.

So why is the cortex A9 getting so much support from the manufacturers vs the A8 Confused Very curious indeed.
