RE: XBMC Eden crashing - Japaja - 2012-04-15

I have the same thing happening. Tried it on my desktop PC with Win 7x86, Nvidia graphics and my laptop Win7x64, AMD graphics, same thing.
Repeatedly pressing left/right arrows to seek causes a crash and when I turn on Debug Logging it doesn't happen.

RE: XBMC Eden crashing - mcgarnagle - 2012-04-15

I thought I'd just add to the advice about enabling debugging. Today I enabled debugging in the GUI settings to check if it solved my freezing problems, and it did indeed.

However, when I then tried to set loglevel to 1 using an advancedsettings.xml file in my userdata folder I found that it was being ignored. In order to get my advancedsettings.xml loglevel value to be reflected by XBMC I had to

1. Set loglevel to -1 or 2 in my advancedsettings.xml file (i.e. one of the settings available in the GUI)
2. Start XBMC
3. Twiddle thumbs
4. Close XBMC
5. Set loglevel to 1 in my advancedsettings.xml file

Only then was the loglevel setting applied correctly.

RE: XBMC Eden crashing - cityboy - 2012-04-15

I get this error all the time on all my XBMC machines of various hardware. The problem I think relates to slow Network Disk IO. So if you skip to quickly, the disk hasn't caught up with the last skip and it crashes. So if you press Skip once a second, rather than many times a second it is okay. Press skip many times a second and it crashes. It's like you have to wait for the screen to catch up with the skip, doing it too soon crashes. Okay this isn't a bug log, but I think describing the symptoms specifically can help

RE: XBMC Eden crashing - SJSquishy - 2012-04-15

I get the same issue on local disks though. I can reproduce it time and time again.

RE: XBMC Eden crashing - doclucas - 2012-04-15

Guys, description of the issue is not really enough or very helpful. The developers need full debug log and your settings used in system\video output, system\audio output and video\playback? The more info you provide the better. Have a look at my post #28 for example: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=127886&pid=1069074#pid1069074

Did u even read? I tried to reproduce it, but it doesn't happen when I turn on the option for full debug log.

Yes, I did read of course and I wasn't replying to you in person, it was a reply for everyone.
Just a recommendation tho, don't turn on debugging via the GUI. Just turn it on and leave it on via advancedsettings.xml as suggested by mcgarnagle and if and when it crashes again - use the log for reporting.

RE: XBMC Eden crashing - PKOneTwo - 2012-04-16

Since the days of XBMC 11 (alpah, beta and now final) i have this strange problem too!!!

When i seek videos, XBMC crashes. Sometimes after a few minutes in the video, sometimes when i'm seeking the 3rd or 4th video (in a row).
The problem is i can't see a damn thing in the log!
Now i have activated loglevel 3 in advancedsettings and waiting for it to happen (hopefully i will get a xbmc crash file too).

FYI: : no crashing whatsoever with xbmc dharma!!! And crashing mostly occur with WMV files and avi files. less with mp4/mkv!

PS: Can it be: When i seek videos, sometimes XBMC crashes (decription above). But when i activate the debug logging, nothing crashes. Not even when i seek the same video?!?
This is the most strange thing i had and have been dealing with since a few months now!!! Since alpha of eden and thought: it's my hardware! But good to know there are more people!

PS: W7x64, 8GB, ATI 5450 and 6450 (xbmc on this one)

Thanks, I'll try it that way.

RE: XBMC Eden crashing - debennett2 - 2012-04-18

I'm just amazed that no one has any idea what the problem is yet. This makes Eden Alpha in my opinion. I'd much like to think otherwise though.

RE: XBMC Eden crashing - musicguy980 - 2012-04-19

I've got a strange problem i can't seem to fix. everytime i use pseudotv it crashes xbmc upon exiting. It only happen with eden 11.0- dsplayer. if intsall any other version of eden problem goes away. Heres a copy oof the debug log maybe someone could help me out. thanks

RE: XBMC Eden crashing - bradgy - 2012-04-22

I believe I've narrowed the crashing problem down in my case. Like a lot of others I recently switched to eden from dharma; Win 7 x64 build, and I'm using cirrus extended v2 atm.

It seemed like logging the debug fixed the crashing in my case, however I eventually managed to replicate the crash with logging on, once I realised that the crashes happened at the same time my XBOX 360 wireless controller (which I have mapped to XBMC controls using Xpadder) was going to sleep (after a period of inactivity to save battery life ie. no button presses)

Here's the last bit of my log file:

RE: XBMC Eden crashing - momoz - 2012-04-24

I wonder if it could be related to the IR driver? I just got a new ION2 box and it would blue screen randomly if I held a button down on the remote.

I found an updated version of the driver from some chinese site that ultimately fixed that problem.

RE: XBMC Eden crashing - AbRASiON - 2012-04-25

The problem is not an IR driver or a controller.
I can re-create it sporadically simply by 'skipping around a lot' in a file - I suspect it's some kind of caching issue or something.

Interesting... I can skip to my heart's content without crashing, but it crashes without fail as soon as the controller disconnects.
