Wow, didn't look into this thread for a while. Appears that this may be ready already for Frodo. Very cool and well done!!!

What features are already ready? I read a lot about people in this thread about people now using their televisions to play from the xbmc library. Can I already now play from an ipad or iphone? What app would you suggest? Already anything, which syncs libraries across several XBMCs?

This I like to know also?
What futures is working with uPnP?

RE: Improved UPnP serving and client - da-anda - 2012-10-27

@steve1977 and pettergulbra
XBMC has NO transcoding features yet and those won't get in for Frodo. So you can only watch movies on your UPNP clients that are already available in a format your device can play.
What's currently beeing done is (AFAIK) to improve the way your XBMC library is shared via UPNP (library nodes, artwork, additional meta info) and improve the support for more UPNP devices that require with special/custom treatment (the later will be improved even more after Frodo)

Hi Alcoheca,

An observation I made is that for some reason not all thums are pushed. Especially in recently added tv, but also for some items (always the same).

Could this be because they're not cached/generated?

I'm away, but will post log if required when I get back...

This is with today's build (with cache locking in), on Windows, serving to iOS App 'MLPlayer Lite'

So if I understand this right. When this it getting up and running, I could connect my Rasp XBMC in to the network.
And it would find everything that is on my main machine, even fanart and everything?

In that case, this looks like an very good thing to have build in.

Thanks for this so far, I look forward to this. :-)

RE: Improved UPnP serving and client - da-anda - 2012-10-27

yes, sort of. It was at least considered to solve the "central XBMC server" thingy via UPNP some day, instead of the mysql configuration pain.

Confirmed that the crash bug is indeed fixed, good work. Also, no more blank entries.

RE: Improved UPnP serving and client - edrikk - 2012-10-28

Hi,

Seems like watching a show via UPnP doesn't update the watched status (tried with a few tv shows). Not sure if the 'viewed up to' spot is saved....

PS. Running the Oct 28 nightly on Windows

Also with respect to my tv thumbnail issue, SEEMS similar to this for RPC:

edrikk, see also http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=142395
video generated thumbs have issues over json and also upnp i believe

RE: Improved UPnP serving and client - edrikk - 2012-10-28

Thanks. Yes, same issue it seems.

Out of the two issues I reported, I think the "not setting item as viewed" might be more critical to fix prior to release...

Great - thanks for letting me know.

@alcoheca

Not sure whether this is a problem with XBMC or with BubbleUPnP. I just installed BubbleUPnP Server, which allows you to access your UPnP servers over the internet. When I try to access XBMC over the internet (using the BubbleUPnP for android client) I'm only able to browse parts of the libraries, but I'm unable to get to the content.

Videos -> Movies -> Title -> Result: Don't get a listing of movies, just an error message
Music -> Artists -> Album -> Result: Don't get a listing of songs, just an error message

It lists Artists and Albums just fine, but I'm unable to get a listing of the Songs. It's like it's only able to show lists of folders or categories, but not the actual media item nodes (songs, movies, etc).

Log: http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=11644
Steps performed when generating this log:
1) Selected "Music library"
2) Selected "Artists"
3) Selected artist "Amon Amarth"
4) Selected album "Twilight of the Thunder God" -> Result: Instead of listing the songs of the album I get the following error message: "Browse Error: Current state of service prevents invoking that action. No response received or internal proxy error."

Edit: Seems I'm unable to browse the Windows Media Player Sharing as well, so maybe this is a problem with my router. WMP doesn't seem to fail at the same place though.

RE: Improved UPnP serving and client - edrikk - 2012-10-30

Can someone please confirm:

- Video thumbnail (especially for movies) display correctly when browsing the "Movies" tree, however the exact same movies when viewed under the "Recently added movies" branch don't show the thumbnail.

TV Shows of course has issue which I have reported here and which was confirmed:
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=127949&pid=1224651#pid1224651

Finally, to keep things a little central in this post, I have also noted that the 'viewed' status is not updated if video is viewed via UPnP.

All of this on a Windows 7 build, using "MLPlayer Light" for iOS on an iPhone and iPad.
