I honestly haven't bothered in a while. If you take these articles seriously, you also think there's a real Bat Boy. There's no point in combating that level of interest.

There are over 40 million unique TVAddons users...

https://torrentfreak.com/kodi-addon-repository-sees-massive-surge-users-170417/

When private citizens are being fined or arrested for downloading Torrents of pirated content, how is it that an organisation that boasts downloads of 1 Petabyte of pirated content is not pursued by Law Enforcement, Copyright Trolls or Movie Studios?

Probably a combination of location and that they don't host any copyrighted content.
They're not low-hanging fruit.

Guys, whatever our opinion, let's keep the Law above all.
Tvaddons only distributes addons, and, to the best of my knowledge, no Kodi addon has ever been deemed illegal.

The only part of the equation which is clearly breaking the copyright laws is the streams themselves, and those putting those streams online (and making money out of them via ads).
The other part which *might* be breaking the law is the users watching those streams in full knowledge they're illegal.

Don't get me wrong. The addons, being facilitators to access illegal streams (and that being their sole purpose, Napster style) *might* be deemed illegal (and their creator sued, btw), but there has been no case yet, afaik.

Seriously, at this point if there's a Kodi article from Express, please don't even bother posting.
I'd say the same can be said for torrentfreak, which is the Daily Express of the tech-world.

I've actually noticed that torrentfreak gets it almost totally correct most of the time, which is somewhat rare in the world of tech blogs.

That it's *currently* not illegal in the UK doesn't say anything about other countries or the future.
It's inherently wrong to get for free from a 3rd party something that is sold by the owner somewhere else, so it mostly gets down to whether the Law has been adapted to new technologies or not.

At one point, torrenting was legal in Spain.
The lobbies were quite successful at closing the legal loophole Wink

I know we said no more Express articles but this is worthy of news!

Ebay ban finally!

http://www.express.co.uk/life-style/science-technology/795304/Kodi-box-news-update-block-UK-ban-ebay

And the original Sun article from last week:

https://www.thesun.co.uk/tech/3308901/ebay-follows-amazons-lead-and-issues-total-ban-on-kodi-box-which-lets-brits-stream-sports-and-films-for-free/

Ebay response:
Quote:A spokesman said: “We run several initiatives designed to combat the infringement of intellectual property rights, including the Verified Rights Owner Program (VeRO).

“We work with the police and regulators to ensure that all listings on eBay comply with the law. There are blocks in place to prevent the listing of illegal items, but we also constantly monitor our marketplace. Anyone found to be knowingly selling items that don’t comply with the law will be investigated and could face account restrictions or suspension.”

Sadly they still seem to be available on ebay but its only a matter of time now.

This is good news. I could only find the odd one or two listing displaying the same old piracy addon logos. Instead of it normally being the other way around.

And it of course now means it can become a truly community-based effort to help get rid of them, as anyone can report them under eBay's own rules to be removed...

RE: Kodi/XBMC in the media? Post links here - docwra - 2017-04-24

Already reported a load of them last week, its actually very small amount of sellers now.

Mostly Sponsored Chinese sellers.

Sadly TechRadar writter Andrew London in bad judjement used a picture of Kodi's Raspberry Pi case in reference to this EU Court ruling about boxes pre-configured for piracy:
