My new HTPC for XBMC - pacish - 2012-04-11

Hi guys i'm new here on these forums, i would like to build a new HTPC for xbmc. I currently have the jetway minitop; 1.8ghz 4 gig ram windows. It runs to slow and i find it freezing way to often. So I decided I will buy another one.

I want my new machine to be super fast when running xbmc I dont want any freezing or any stuttering when im scrolling through my movies and tv shows.

I was thinking of buying the shuttle sh67h3 mini pc barebones adding intel i5 processor with 8 gig ram basic graphics card and running windows. What do you think of this machine? I am willing to spend $500-600 cdn. Is this my best option or is there better ones out there. I really want a fast machine i dont want to worry about it freezing. If i need to spend more i dont mind but i want the ulitmate htpc for XBMC.

I run aeon nox.

Thank you for your help here is a link to the barebone shuttle sh67h3

It should be fine if slight overkill.
My i3 with 4GB of RAM is very very quick and struggle to imagine it being any better.

RE: My new HTPC for XBMC - bluray - 2012-04-11

@pacish-
How about this build-

1. Case: Apex MI-100
2. Mobo: H67M-ITX/HT LGA 1155 Intel H67
3. CPU: Intel Core i3-2105 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz
4. RAM: G.SKILL ECO Series 4GB (2 x 2GB)
5. SSD: Patriot Torqx 2 PT232GS25SSDR 2.5" 32GB
6. BD-ROM: LG Black 12X BD-ROM
7. HDMI cables

-I have the complete guide in this post- How to Bitstreaming using XBMC.........

RE: My new HTPC for XBMC - pacish - 2012-04-11

Thanks for the replys guys.

Interesting i like the case Apex mI-100.

I dont think i will add much harddrive or blue ray palyer inside. I have all my movies and tv shows on seperate external 3 tb harddrives. I have alooot of 720p/1080p movies tv shows since i like everything to be HD so usb ports are needed.

I aslo was considering the case Silverstone Grandia GD06. But I'm worried about the cooling system.

I also just remember does my computer need to have an IR reciever for my IPAD xbmc commander to operate as a remote?

I see that i3 processor will be enough and wont need an i5?

Thanks again.

The mobo in my post included USB 2.0 & 3.0....

It might be too big for a low power HTPC.....

I updated my post with another mobo, which included IR dongle and remote controller...

Thanks bluray for your advice, i think im going with your options but for the case i may go with a different one...alot of options out there.

Does it matter what case i choose?

RE: My new HTPC for XBMC - eskro - 2012-04-12

case choice is a matter of taste,
just make sure your hardware will fit in,

RE: My new HTPC for XBMC - pacish - 2012-04-12

thanks for all your help.

Sorry for a newbie question but bluray i dont see any graphic card added to that setup? or this will do fine the one that comes wiht Intel Core i3-2105 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz

RE: My new HTPC for XBMC - eskro - 2012-04-12

the graphic card is located on the CPU itself.

He'll change his heart too....just like everything else, thing changed overtime and Intel is no different....Tongue

After playing around with my kid i3 and installing several i5 PC's, Intel HDxxxx seems to work better now and its CPU is always top notch....!

How about this case "SilverStone SG06B"? Silverstone built high quality case, and they included high quality PSU and case fan too...

How about this very compact remote/keyboard/mouse "Lenovo N5902"?
