My first HTPC build - B4MB4M - 2012-04-15 Hi All, pretty new to the whole HTPC thing but I made my choice and bought the following : Case : Antec VERIS Fusion Remote Black Mobo : ASRock A75M Proc : AMD Fusion A8-3870K / 3 GHz Mem : Kingston HyperX Genesis, 1600 MHz / PC3-12800 - CL9 - 1.65 V (8 GB : 2 x 4 GB) HD : 300GB Velociraptor. GPU : MSI N520GT-MD1GD3H/LP - PCI-e nVidia /GeForce 500 Series, GF GT 520 - 1 GB DDR3 - PCI Express 2.0 x16 low profile - DVI, D-Sub, HDMI (to be able to run it on Linux) LAN : Intel PRO/1000 GT Desktop Adapter - PCI / 66 MHz - Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet (dedicated for IPTV by XMS) Optical : LG LG BH10LS38 10x BD-R/16x BluRay Writer Black Power : 400W Corsair. Installation of XMBC was a breeze, but I just bumped into the first obstacle : the Blu-ray drive refuses to play Blu-Ray discs. I should be able to, right !!? Did another installation based on windows 7 (on the same machine) but even in windows 7 I can't play any Blu-Ray disc. Am I missing something ? I was under the impression that Blu-Ray playback was more or less standard. Anyway, this rig should be able to get the job done I think. My Goal is to get a Mediaplayer/Blu-Ray/Settopbox replacement in 1 device. (I got three separate devices at the moment. Best regards Jerry RE: My first HTPC build - eskro - 2012-04-15 uhm, which software are u using for bluray disc playback? if its XBMC, no bluray disc will play unLess this app runs in background --> SLYSOFT ANYDVD HD RE: My first HTPC build - bluray - 2012-04-15 Congrat on a powerful HTPC.....! Unfortunately, both media players are not supporting BD-ROM. Your BD-ROM should come with a media player (most likely Cyberlink), and you should install it. If you want XBMC to playback blu-ray disc directly on BD-ROM, you have to install this "AnyDVD HD".....and you'll get 14 days trial. After you installed it, you need to reboot your HTPC. Insert blu-ray disc, launch XBMC and then click Play Disc.....enjoy the movie! RE: My first HTPC build - B4MB4M - 2012-04-15 I really would like to run every thing on XBMCbuntu. The solution you both are offering are windows programs. I'm looking around the internet to find some info on how to make it posible to run Blu-Ray disc on XBMC but till now nothing worked. Indeed my DB-ROM came with power dvd but when I try to play any Blu-Ray it start complaining about upgrading the player in order to get it to play. DVD (obviously) are no problem. Any chance on getting this Blu-Ray issue resolved whit XBMCbuntu ? , I mean : is it possible ? btw : cheers for the replies ;-) RE: My first HTPC build - B4MB4M - 2012-04-15 btw : some pics of the rig : RE: My first HTPC build - bluray - 2012-04-15 (2012-04-15, 22:29)B4MB4M Wrote: I really would like to run every thing on XBMCbuntu.I'm not sure about XBMCbuntu. If your BD-ROM included Cyberlink, you can try to install it and find a way to setup XBMC external player with XBMCbuntu...... I thought you have W7 installed in it too. It might be the only option to enjoy blu-ray disc on BD-ROM.......good luck! RE: My first HTPC build - eskro - 2012-04-16 forget linux if u plan to playback bluray discs RE: My first HTPC build - B4MB4M - 2012-04-16 That's really a bummer..... is it just not possible to run Blu-Ray discs directly from a drive ?? Started with an xp install but is BSOD's me at installation, let's look into that first. RE: My first HTPC build - eskro - 2012-04-17 dont install XP!! use Win7 x64 RE: My first HTPC build - bluray - 2012-04-17 (2012-04-16, 21:47)B4MB4M Wrote: That's really a bummer..... is it just not possible to run Blu-Ray discs directly from a drive ??You'll loose DXVA2 support with XP.....just snag a cheap W7 from here- Microsoft Windows 7. For $68, you'll get full license with it too.... RE: My first HTPC build - dmgash - 2012-04-17 You can use this guide . I have tested this method using windows 7 and it works well its a little hacky and not as clean a solution as buying slysoft but nothing beats free RE: My first HTPC build - B4MB4M - 2012-04-17 (2012-04-17, 03:26)dmgash Wrote: You can use this guide . I will post my findings here. RE: My first HTPC build - B4MB4M - 2012-05-02 After a couple of day testing and fiddling about with the setup, I found that I can play blu-ray discs but with serious (for me) limitations. I finally got the sound an optical cable working, got the LCD to show something, and go dark when I shut the HTPC down, but I must continue with that, to make it show some useful stuff. The main issue for me right now is the remote. I 'm still having some troubles with it. I followed this guide and got the remote actions shown. However, some of the buttons don't give any response : Code: jerry@XBMC:~$ irw Some buttons do not output anything on Lirc. The missing buttons are : Power, eject, app launcher,go,task switcher, timer, pictures The main problem for me is that I cant seem to shutdown the HTPC with the remote, under windows I can without problems.
