Just use Microsoft's Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool:

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

I've used that one to install onto a netbook without issues. Although I'm a noob here so I'm sure there are better ways.

EDIT: Crap sorry, was typing a bigger reply then realized I'd totally be hijacking your thread so it took me a while, and looks like everybody else posted the same reply while I was hammering out my reply.

Thanks a ton guys!

Wait a second, you guys convinced me(without even knowing it) it would be an awesome idea to spend hundreds of dollars...what have I done!?

On a serious note, what you all have done with this community is outstanding. I would have never taken the plunge to build something like this on my own despite building my own gaming rigs all the time. It is such a different problem and without people like you testing/building/helping there is little chance us mortals would build something nice without bashing our head into a wall. Kudos to all of you Smile

I'll be sure to post some pictures of the build next week when it comes together...least I can do..

Thats the one I use also.
Always found it to be fast and easy.

Hey Beer,

Is the little keyboard you link in your build worth it, is the trackpad for the mouse use-able? I was planning on just doing a ghetto usb keyboard for now if I need to dump out into a web browser or something.

I'm assuming the remote plus asrock mobo allows me to power on and off with the remote and navigate all of xbmc.

Yup its awesome.... I love it... turn on pc from cold. I rarely surf the net on my htpc but it works perfect. Perfect when I want to tweak something....

It's my ON button LOL Big Grin

I'm new here and those bastards did the same thing to me! I've got it really bad, I now have 2 cases, 2 SSD's, and I'm now planning on building 2 systems, one for my home theater setup in my living room and one to be portable and take in my RV or on my dad's sailboat.

Bluray: The instant boot option, does that require you to leave your hibernation file on?

That will not work with hibarnation off..... it has to be on....

Yeah I think I'll go hibernation off and see if I can hit the 20s mark rather than constantly write junk to the SSD.

AsRock Instant Boot is different than straight hibernation in one important aspect. It reboot HTPC before it put it in hibernation. It'll help keep HTPC running stable. I have a slow AsRock E350M1. I have it for more than a year now, and it is very stable with AsRock Instant Boot option....

yeah Seppuku, follow my SSD optimization tricks.
avoid any possible un'needed writes to your SSD.
Keep it healthy for a long time!

Have you seen this one? http://www.overclock.net/t/1156654/seans-windows-7-install-optimization-guide-for-ssds-hdds

It has most of the same stuff as yours, he does have an extra trick to disable the gui on boot..says it shaves off 1-2s
